Health Care Debate: Excise Tax vs. Wealth Tax

    I have to side with the Senate on this one. It's not that I think the wealthy are under-taxed or anything, but I foresee a need to use income tax policy to solve some of our other budget problems. The excise tax separates income tax policy from the health care debate and gives Congress the opportunity to use increased taxes on wealthy incomes to address future revenue issues.

    That's one of the reasons I brought it up. It seems all the commentary distills it down to "soak the rich" vs. "soak the unions." I don't find the problem to be that simplistic.
