Is this realistic? In world history, are there any cases where formally unpopular nations have just "turned things around" and joined the majority? I was trying to think of any example that didn't involve some sort of overthrow or loss in war...and the closest I could come up with was maybe, Libya? I mean, they were right up there as "most hated", but it seems that lately that country has been very much pacified, and I daresay, accomodating? Maybe that's too much...but that was the closest I could think of. Any history buffs have any insights here?

Thank you. The ;strongest' posts are those which, while vehemently disagreeing with another, remain civil and free from name-calling.
