That story about Fox accusing The Muppets for putting dangerous thoughts into the children's minds even made it into the news over here.

I'm going to watch The Muppets today. I can't wait to see it.

I am not a liberal by any stretch, yet I went to the mUppet movie to enjoy --well the movie !. I didn't look for, not pay attention to any agendas -- that is entirely possible to do pretty easily.

-- to finish my first thought- I normally would like to see things for kids to stay away from the nutso political environment in our country today- but I admit- this is hysterical..

I'll tell you the tale of the Children's Record Guild (and their Young People's Records subsidiary) - a company that made educational records starting in the 1940s-1950s, often involving blacklisted folkies like Pete Seeger (who weren't necessarily credited on the packaging). They sold by mail order subscription.

Although there were clearly a lot of lefties involved in the productions, the actual contents were innocent and apolitical to the point of boring you to tears, being aimed mostly at elementary schoolers. And while they were always excellent musically, they were clearly recorded on the cheap.

But the John Birch Society tried to have them banned, insisting that CRG was inserting secret mind-altering waves into the recordings that were turning innocent American children into commies.

Much was made of the fact that CRG shared mailing addresses with the Living Language Course company, whose best selling language course was Russian.

Here's an especially cool CRG release from 1950 that's sure to have you wallpapering your bedroom with pinups of Lenin:
