What they're really interested in doing is oppressing gays - as well as any children that happen to be associated with them. All the false piety and sanctimony they espouse is just to cover their deep rooted hatred and fears. And all the while they congratulate themselves on what "great americans" they are. For those that might have missed it, the Utah state senate voted to declare the semi-automatic pistol the "official gun of Utah". This was jast week - in the wake of the Tucson shooting of a democratic politican and a dozen others - with a semiautomatic pistol. Such shameful people.

It's fantastic if you're a straight white male over 21. And it helps if you love horses, guns, the Bible, and Glenn Beck. Two things in fairness: the bill doesn't ban gay families, it just makes it extremely difficult to qualify for any state funding or programs that benefit families. The insidious bigotry and hatred is more subtle than "banning" families. Second, any legislator can file any bill. Fortunately, even here the most insane stuff doesn't fly.

If adopted Utah would be the first state to have embraced this dumb idea. All I can do is shake my head at the thought of it.

These days, the only way a gun serves as "an amazing tool" is if you enjoy the recreational hunting of animals, which I personally find distasteful but might feel otherwise if I really loved the taste of venison (I do not), and couldn't get it at the supermarket.

Are you really claiming that they were necessary for survival? Look, I get that because guns have been invented, and the military has access to them, that ordinary citizens should too. BUT, that doesn't make them an "amazing tool that has served our nation". That makes them a sad reality that we should all be ashamed of.
