<<13 of the victims were shot within a half-hour period, including 8 in a drive-by shooting on a single street.

Chicago officials have been battling a sharp increase in shootings and homicides, with some elected officials arguing gangs do not fear the police.

The city's murder rate has spiked 29% year-over-year as of this month.

By that time in 2011, 270 people had been killed in the city, according to data complied by the local newspaper RedEye Chicago. In 2012, that number is 348.

It is not the first time this year Chicago has seen a single night of double-digit victims.

Over the Memorial Day weekend in May, 12 people were killed, and another 48 were wounded.>>

Good old Chicago. The city with the draconian gun control laws, that has been trying to criminalize private gun ownership for the past decade to the point that ONLY the criminals are the ones with guns. And, has a murder rate that rivals major cities in third world countries.

I wonder how the Mayor and Chief of Police plan on combating this threat?

What do you do when no law abiding citizen has a gun, only the criminals?

There has to be some middle ground...

Also, Chicago may have tough gun laws itself, but when you only have to go outside the city limits to get them easily, it's not really going to work.

Chicago had zero problems with violence when there was no alcohol allowed. Right?
