(If you ever pass through and hear a reference to 3.2, it's Utah's percentage of alcohol allowed in beer. It's a fairly common reference around here to anything that's weak.) Go to one of those stores promoted on the billboard and they'll gladly sell you a copy of the "cable version" of whatever you're looking for (or, um, so I've heard). One poor sap decided to sell the real thing behind his counter to people who knew to ask. He got busted in a sting operation (my tax dollars at work, folks) and tossed in the slammer. Yup, that's what law enforcement in the Salt Lake Valley is up to. If they aren't breaking up a dance in Provo, they're busting adults who enjoy watching other adults engage in sex.

Given that, and that it (despite a lot of blustering by Christian conservatives like James Dobson) has yet to be shown to actually be harmful to people, the government has no business regulating it. So long as it involves consenting adults participating, and consenting adults purchasing, any attempt to restrict it is legislating morality. Of course, people who want to legislate morality suddenly change their tune when someone else wants to legislate their own brand of morality that would then step on their toes.

Yeah, I think that works best for everyone. Now go pray to Jeebus for my soul.

Before we had photography, we had oil paintings, and paintings were made for the same purposes porn is made now. Even going back to Pompeii, if you look at the walls, there are explicit sexual images on them. So, it's really pretty ridiculous to suggest porn is either restricted to this country or that it's doing anything at all. What we have are some prudes who seem inordinately interested in other people's sexual behavior. It is none of their business. This goes for watching Japanese scat videos to peering in on what Bill Clinton did in the oval office. Leave people alone. You have your religion, go pretend it has some value to you. Keep yourself busy telling yourself that, and let other people do what they want to do.
