It would be simple to double check your words in a dictionary before grabbing that Sharpie and marking up your sign. These people would use a dictionary if it mattered to them. Obviously, it doesn't. They're perfectly content to 'go public' with their thoughts and feelings without any regard to how they're presented, whether or not the language is accurate. They don't give a rat's arse if their words are spelled correctly, because it's just not important to them. These are the same individuals who were screaming about Obama "indoctrinating" the students with his classroom speech. They would rather their kids miss a day of school so as not to be subjected to 'liberal mind control' than attend class and take their education seriously. These individuals HATE education. They themselves do not value education. They hate it so much, they refuse to keep a dictionary handy and learn to use their mother tongue properly. (Yes, I'm assuming they're US born citizens because they're all white. I doubt any of them came from Scandinavia.) These people do not value education for themselves, and often distrust the educated amongst them. Of course, these protestors all sing the same tune when the educated citizens represent their misguided beliefs. Newt is college educated, is also a professor, and that's OK. Obama is college educated (Ivy League, just like Bush), and once worked as a constitutional law lecturer, but that's not OK. Obama is 'elitist' whereas Newt is not. These protestors are proud of being ignorant. They want someone else to do the heavy lifting for them, regarding brain use. It doesn't take a genius to use a dictionary, and take pride in one's language skills. Sure, we all make mistakes in correspondence. But these kinds of mistakes are avoidable. Problem is, the sign makers see no reason why they SHOULD attempt to avoid them. When large segments of the population continue to devalue the accumulation of knowledge and the application of critical thinking skills, the nation suffers overall. America is certainly suffering.
