I never ever, ever want to be that vulnerable. If I want to feel that way, perhaps I will move to Syria or some other area run by a dictator with a gun. One more thing, if every gang member in this country were to blow themselves away, I'm not thinking I would miss them.
Originally Posted By Dr Hans Reinhardt "And we all know that if there was a law outlawing guns, those gangs would just be throwing crayons at each other." Except that no one here is advocating the complete elimination of access to firearms. We're talking about sensible controls. On that note, there's plenty of data out there that plainly shows that nations that have enacted common sense gun measures have virtually no mass shooting rampages like the ones we frequently have here. "...but I still don't ever want to see the end of a citizen of this country having the right of access to a weapon to defend themselves. I never ever, ever want to be that vulnerable." You sound paranoid. Seriously.

No. Even the most common sense efforts at stemming the tide of gun violence in this country don't stand an ice cube's chance of passage. Personally, I think efforts should be focused on the responsibilities of gun ownership. Gun owners know all about rights. But the responsible part, that's really where we are lacking. Starting to work towards eliminating preventable deaths by mishandling a gun, or leaving it accessible to children and others who shouldn't, would be a common sense starting point, I would think. It won't ever happen, but it would be a great start.

Chicago may have strict laws, plenty of other places don't. Just because one city decides to clamp down on sales at gun shows, so long as others don't, there can't be much measurable difference in the outcome.
