So, that being said, is there some kind of trash being talked about our First Lady on right wing sites or something? I just don't think I've ever heard anything about her that I'd classify as negative, so I'm curious where my person's feelings are coming from.

You don't want to know. You really don't. Through my nutty uncle I get links all the time. Some of it is ridiculous but not over the top nasty, like "she wants to take away our kids' twinkies. If it was up to her, no kid could ever have candy again, and our schools couldn't decide for themselves what to serve, yada yada yada..." But then some of it is just the most vile racist or misogynist (or both) garbage you've ever seen.

There was nothing like this I remember from the left about Laura Bush. Whatever we might have said about George W. Bush, or Cheney or Rumsfeld or whomever, I don't remember anything like that about Laura. She always seemed like a perfectly nice woman to me, and there was so much legitimate criticism for George and Cheney et al, why even go there? But the far right really seems to hate Michelle, and unfortunately that is the right word.

That's what I'm afraid of... exactly that. This person is one whom I've been acquainted for a VERY long time, and I shudder to think that they feel this way just because of Mrs. Obama's race...I even had this person say to me the other day that the First Lady "even managed to marry a man who's half white." I was, and still am, dumbfounded by that statement. I just have no idea what the proper response is, so I just went with "well, she has no bearings on his policies. He is the President."

I'm not particularly proud of this, but my base, gut reaction is to simply punch someone as hard as I could right in the face if they said something like this. That reaction isn't any better than what they might have just said, but it's all they would deserve. The time has long since passed for anyone to spew such racist garbage (as well as time should have passed for a reaction such as mine), and those types of people absolutely need to be marginalized as quickly as possible.

I also have to say though, it would feel really, really, really good to punch someone like that, watch them crumple, bleed profusely, and hopefully maybe swallow a few teeth in the process. Maybe bite their tongue to the point of moderate to severe injury at the same time. Frankly, walking away and not doing it takes more energy that simply swinging away, which likely why such people just wear me out anymore. But I walk away just the same. So far.

There's been plenty of time spent in American circles on the fear of white racists of black men corrupting white women. It has been, for years, a completely irrational fear that has driven some of the most high profile racism and violence in the twentieth century, such as Birth of a Nation, Scottsboro, Emmett Till, etc.

But less discussed is the white fear of the strong black woman. If black men were supposed to be deferential and submissive, black women were supposed to be invisible. And while racist conservatives have enjoyed mocking Obama for not being black enough, Michelle Obama is the symbol of everything they hate.

I understand that completely, but due to the nature of this person's relationship with me, I simply say whatever I can to change the conversation topic ASAP. I most certainly could never hit them, or cut them out of my life.

I guess you can go with the idea that there are an equal number of extremely unhinged liberals as conservatives at this moment in time. I don't think you'll win that argument but you're welcome to make it. LOL

But yanking some site no one has ever heard of and comparing it to the Fox News site is completely disingenuous.
