James Clyburn (D-S.C.) told reporters that Rep. Emanuel Cleaver (D-Mo.) had been spat on by a protestor. Rep. John Lewis (D-Ga.), a hero of the civil rights movement, was called a 'ni--er.' And Rep. We know exactly what they're all about and where their hatred of Obama comes from.

I think they WANT to get one of their own arrested on sedition charges or whatever so they can point and shout "tyranny!". I also think the feds are smart not to take the bait, but they can't do so forever if things continue to escalate..that's for sure!

"If Brown can't stop it, a Browning can." In other words, if Scott Brown can't stop it because the Democrats are going with reconciliation (and bypassing the much-abused filibuster), a Browning gun can stop anyone who dares support health reform. Imagine if anti-Iraq war protesters had held up a sign threatening violence against Bush or Cheney or Rumsfeld. Something like "Bring 'em home or we'll bring you down," with a picture of a gun on it. For sure the right-wingers would have had a collective cow, the people holding the signs would have been branded terrorists, and I think there's more than a fair chance they could have been arrested and charged with terroristic threats. Yet when these people do it, in Nutjob World, they're "patriots."

Originally Posted By ecdc >>Anyone want to give me the short and sweet version of what all this tea party nonsense is all about?<< In theory, it's a take-off of the Boston Tea Party - protesting government taxes and lack of a voice from the people. They initially were called "tea baggers" because they would take tea bags to the rallies. But tea bagger means something else (Urbandictionary.com if you must look it up) so they strived to go with tea party. The thing is, the theory isn't all that bad. It's a perspective I don't happen to agree with, but it's one that's long been a noble American tradition - small government, lower taxes, local governance over federal governance, etc. And I have no doubt that some of the people involved are decent Americans who believe those things. But in practice, a very large number of them - including their leaders - use this as an excuse to be very sore losers over Obama's election. Many of them are racist. Many of them are uneducated. They use labels that have no application - socialism, Nazi, Fascist, etc - and that they have no idea what their meaning is. In short, they're largely a group of people who think anyone who isn't with them is an illegitimate President, un-American, and a danger to the nation. It's all rooted in myth and fantasy, but they believe it so in their minds, it must be true.

In fact, for most of them, their taxes went DOWN - but 91% of them think they went up. I'm not making that up - 91% of these people think their taxes went up under Obama when they actually went down. Think about that for a moment: A group of people whose name is taken from tax protesting, who are all about fighting government taxes, who organized under the banner of anti-taxation, DON'T KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT TAXES! Welcome to the American right wing.
