According to the article, Delay wanted to shut down an Indian casino. This would have benefitted a client of Jack Abramoff who just happened to donate money to Delay right before Delay's demand.

Nice. The lobbyist and Delay tried to use the federal government to shut down the business competitors of one of their donors.

I understand that they also used gambling as a hook to rally conservative Christians behind the closure and to get them to contact their senators and representative - even though they were taking money from other casinos at the same time.

Is Delay really the kind of guy those of you on the right really want to be defending?

If Rep Delay is really guilty of corruption, then he should be convicted. Already, Republicans have pushed him out of his leadership position because he was tainted by corruption, although the evidence is preliminary. My memory is that when similar things were charged against Democrats, they stayed in power until they were convicted.

Charges are possibly coming. They're also looking at some Delay aides, despite Delay saying he wasn't a target.

I'm not going to try to defend Delay. I was simply responding to Tom's question.

No reason to defend any of them on possible criminal charges right now, Doug.

All of which, in the here and now, garners a big yawn. But, the issue here is Delay, so no more trying to re-direct or re-frame, as you're prone to do so often.

It's a shame Delay turned out to be such a disapointment. He's going to run into a lot of the same people on the way down he stepped on going up.
