KJ fell in love with the CRV. The Cash for Clunkers thing was going on at the time, but this was when it was questionable if there was enough money in the program for trade ins. The Honda dealership told us at the time that there were not accepting any Cash For Clunkers because know one knew that the "money" situation was like. Oh and I was going alone on vacation, KJ needed to complete 12 months on his job before he can take a vacation. So on the day I was suppose to leave I told KJ that "if" he was to buy a CRV while I was on vacation, just make sure it had a roof rack and mud flaps! Before I was out the door he had already bought the CRV. He got the green with beige interior. He loves it! He's getting 25 mpg city and 30 mpg highway. I never thought that we would get rid of the minivan... but I think KJ really needed to do that. We got the minivan really to accomidate his parents and now that his parents are both deceased for KJ the minivan was a painful reminder that they will not be coming back. It was time to emotionally move on. Doing the Cash for Clunkers thing was kinda easy and painless. Althought the dealer jacked up the price of the CRV a grand when we used the Cash for Clunkers program. If we had not used Cash for Clunkers the dealer was willing to take a grand off the price of the CRV. But with Cash for Clunkers the CRV was full price minus the $4,500 for the minivan. The minivan's value was only $2,200 USD. And Consumer Reports had listed the minivan among its top ten vehicles to ditch using Cash For Clunkers. Apparently the paperwork between the dealer and the Federal Government is still pending and we can only use the temporary plates. Yesterday the temp plates expired so KJ put the plates from the minivan on the new CRV. Which when the paper work is completed will be registered to the new CRV.

I know not all Republicans are against it, but I think the majority are.

Which honestly at this point we would pay if we were obligated to. My understand also is that the Federal Government has a huge backlog of paperwork regarding the Cash For Clunkers Program. So this could take a while ( I'm guessing a month or more ) before things are finalized. <<How do Republicans FEEL about using the cash for clunkers program, even though they have been told, by Republican leaders, it is a bad thing because it is further running our country in debt that our grandchildren will have to pay off.>> First off I'm not a Republican. I"m a Libertarian and a Fiscal Conservative. I was dead set against the Cash For Clunkers Program from the get-go. I also think it failed in its purpose. I believe the intent was for Americans to go out and ( hopefully ) purchase Amercian cars ( basically a hand out to Michican and Illinois ). We wanted a Ford Escape Hybrid but there were none to be found. And part of the conditions of the Cash For Clunkers program was that you could only purchase cars on the a lot. KJ really wanted a smaller SUV and the only manufactures that had those cars on their lots were Japanese car companys. So basically we got rid of a Chyrsler product and bought a Japanese product which was built here in the US. If we are going to talk about improved air quality then YES the Cash For Clunkers was successfull as we got a bunch of huge gas hogs off the road. But when your talking about where the money went... Obama is the Best President Japan ever had! The top ten cars traded in under the Cash for Clunker Program were all American... of the top ten vehicles purchased only 4 were American. <What happened?> What deserves its own thread. Lets just say that my flight finally got to its destination 12 hours late and me and most everyone on the flight lost their luggage.

Had no idea it was to sell American made cars, although that would make sense to increase jobs in car manufacturing. Maybe the cash-for-clunkers program should have only included the purchase of American made cars. Of course, some Japanese cars are assembled in the US now. Anyway, the important thing I think in the long run is decreasing the dependence on foreign oil.

You got a new car, got some money back, a car dealer and manufacturer made money which results in domestic jobs, fuel efficiency is improved, pollution is reduced. Yes, sounds like the program was a complete failure.
