It was done in the context of discussing the Republican Party at-large, especially in the wake of what's happened in Upstate New York. Axelrod was tying Limbaugh to the Republican party and pointing out that there's no place for moderates. Like it or not, that's just smart politics. Tying extremists to the other side makes sense.
