Personally I was surprised and thrilled to hear that Emmy-winner Lisa Kudrow is nominated for her cancelled HBO series "The Comeback". I've never seen any of "Comeback" yet (it's on DVD now), but after her characters of Ursula and Phoebe on NBC, I love her and respect her as one of our funniest comedic actresses with impeccable timing and characterization. I think "Lost" got a few writing nominations, and though I don't recall which episodes they were for, I could see that. And just because something is popular doesn't mean it gets nominated. I was glad to see that Stockard Channing got nominated for "Out of Practice". The show is gone now, but she was terrific, as was Henry Winkler. Best nominations for me were Gregory Itzin and Jean Smart for "24". Well deserved. Funniest nomination for me was South Park's episode about Scientology. Too frickin' funny. I was disappointed that some of the outstanding performances on Law and Order: SVU weren't recognized in the guest acting category. Ludicris was especially striking and memorable. /cs

"Without detailing all the weird flourishes in this year's Emmy bids," Brian Lowry wrote in Daily Variety,"how 'bout this one to rule them all: Fox's House nominated for best drama, without lead actor recognition for its show-carrying star, Hugh Laurie?"
