[Note, the link is CNN.com's political "ticker" or blog. The content could change but right now this is the top story.

So they both got busted on a live mic. And of course, in our hypersensitive, feelings-over-truth political climate, they look dumb because they have to pretend that Dennis Kucinich and that crazy guy from Alaska has just as much of a chance as them of getting elected.

But truth be told, I'm not sure they're wrong. I'd much rather listen to three or four candidates give more in-depth answers than lame "show of hands" questions. I'd love even more (though the candidates themselves would probably never agree to it) to see a moderator with some backbone step in and interrupt them when they do their "I'm going to change the topic, pretend like I'm answering the question, but not address it at all" schtick.

I recognize it's a thorny issue. On the one hand, you don't just want to have to top two recognizable or popular candidates at the time in the debates. Bill Clinton certainly wouldn't have been President if that were the case. But on the other hand, the line has to be drawn somewhere. We all know Kucinich isn't going to be President.

And where do you draw the line? What about richardson? He may do very well in the southwest so it's too early to count him out.

They'll still be plenty of time for debates with the top contenders after we see how the pack fares in the first few primary dates. In the meantime, kucinich (and ron paul on the GOP side) are good for soundbites, if nothing else.

After Perot mad them look so bad (before he self destructed) the Republicans and the Democrats agreed to exclude any third party candidates from future debates.

If they're that intent on limiting the voter's choices then I'm not surprised by this. I wonder what kind of deals are going on in the GPO tent?
