I plan to never be in this position, but if I were either party in a jury trial, I would hope that the jurors would take it seriously enough to fulfill this obligation to the letter.

The overall experience eroded my faith in our judicial system, however. There were incompetent judges. Rules that prevent the jury from having the most relevant information. Clerical screw-ups. Seriously, the trials frequently felt as though they were hastily organized by a volunteer committee or something. The worst part was the prejudice and, um... lack of intellectual ability of many of the jurors. Not to mention the jurors whose highest priority was to reach the quickest possible verdict -- totally without regard to the facts of the case. I, personally, would not want a "jury of my peers." I strongly believe we should employ professional jurors.

Surely, you have suffered enough! Sorry, just kidding, but the devil made me say that. Moving along...I have been called for jury duty twice. Mostly just civil cases. Boring, boring and more boring. It's a good way to get out of work but it's time you will never get back.

In Georgia all you have to do is say you listen to Neal Boortz.

The larger company was also suing the smaller company. The larger company was counter-suing the smaller one. Both companies were also suing the city of New York. The lawyers admitted it could all take 6 weeks or more, but said that those of us with jobs (and there seemed to be plenty in the jury pool who didn't have one) should not attempt to avoid this case, even though, of course, most jobs would not be happy about you being out that long. So I answered all my questions honestly and didn't try to get out of it. I thought several people were rather transparently trying to avoid being picked. Luckily, one of the lawyers must not have liked my face or something, because I was dismissed. Still don't know why.

I'm not sitting on a jury again, ever. I want nothing to do with the "justice" system we have here. Railroading DAs, an insane civil system, defense lawyers out to get anyone off no matter how heinous the crime and guilty the defendant. And jurors who are basically too dumb to know they are being played. It's just a giant game played by a legal industry who have made themselves a nice living off it.
