His dishonesty would be unacceptable in any politician, but McCain has always set his own bar higher than most. *His opportunistic and irresponsible choice of Sarah Palin as his political heir -- the person in whose hands he would leave the country -- is a form of personal treason, a betrayal of all he once stood for.

What's always appealed to me is that McCain was willing to do what he thought was right, regardless of who it pissed off, even his own party. But he's now flipped-flopped on so many issues, and continues to do so even this week, that it seems that he's now willing to say or believe anything in order to get elected. That's not the John McCain that I know and voted for, but apparently the one that will be on the ballot in November.

The media sharks are getting bolder about questioning the truth of his commercials, but if he breaks off the attack now he's doomed. Damned if he does, damned if he doesn't it seems.

McCain wants this gig so badly he's willing to do ANYTHING this campaign to achieve his goal. I think the turning point came when stories were flying around many months ago that he was out of money and was going to have to pack it in. He's at least eight years too late and a lot older. By all rights, it should have been a McCain/Gore race back in 2000, but Bush had the sleazier advisors. I imagine McCain thought he would be the one making his final statesman-like exit in 2008-09, as opposed to still scrambling. He's whored himself out, and it isn't pretty.
