However, they are in America, there's likely to be racism and intolerance by some of our more backward, uneducated citizens. It's just something you have to deal with.

I didn't realize that you had started another thread on this topic first. I apologize. It appears that I misspoke without realizing that I was stumbling into a feud between you and X.
Originally Posted By Dr Hans Reinhardt >>Seriously Hans? Would you say the same if kids were wearing "re-segregation now!" t-shirts?<< Yes, I would. It's America; people have the right to express themselves. The last thing we need are authorities telling us what we can and cannot wear on our clothing. Likewise, there is nothing that should hinder the Latino population at the school from expressing their solidarity for their circumstance. I assume that many, if not all, of the Latino students are American citizens, and hopefully they will use this as a platform to demonstrate just how ignorant and superficial Wednesday's display of patriotism really was.

It is well within the rights of school administrations to require appropriate attire. ***It's America; people have the right to express themselves*** And people also have the right to privacy, but that didn't stop you from endorsing any and all invasions of privacy in the face of security worries over in the other thread. Why would provocative statements such as this one not fall under the category of "Public Safety" as well? ***I didn't realize that you had started another thread on this topic first*** It's not at all the same topic.

To pick that particular day, out of all others, to wear Border Patrol t-shirts is to link the two issues together. Nobody denies that the majority of illegals in the US are from Mexico, but is it really necessary to pick that one day of the year to make a statement? I think it's the same issue that people have with overt displays of the Stars and Bars on MLK day. I understand that there's an amount of "Southern Pride" that some people have, and that some like to display the Confederate flag as a symbol of this. But for someone that doesn't ordinarily wear Confederate Flag t-shirts to make a point of doing so only on MLK day is going beyond just showing their pride but is making a statement that some will find offensive.
