Cruise is frankly too old to be that individual. Calling him the Christ of Scientology is quite mistaken. Hubbard, the founder, is their Christ. Tom Cruise could conceivably be their Paul, a man who saw the light, converted, and then spread the message even further than the founder.

It's not so hard to believe that Scientology upper-ups may have said that. And it's not hard to believe that they have lauded him in an effort to ensure that he remains publically faithful. If I were the Church of Scientology, I would recognize that Tom Cruise might have started to view his connection to the Church as a potential career liability. If I were the Church, I'd be worried about that. I would do all I could to keep him as an active advocate. If that means heaping on the praise, so be it. Cruise is flailing. Let's do all we can to keep him from renouncing the Church in his effort to get grounded. (No pun intended.)
