Even if he's not a birther per se, he's playing into the belief by many that Obama is an illegitimate President (which is why the phrase, "I'm not a birther, but" is so common). There's nothing funny about racist people not believing a Democratically elected President is legitimate, unless you're making fun of them. Romney's not - he's making fun of Obama. Stay classy, Willard.

And he better come up with his LONG form, or I'm going to assume he's Canadian.

That was the inflection, and if that isn't enough to convince you, his smug little face after he said it and was basking in the cheers ought to. It was clearly a planned cheer line, and he clearly said it to appeal to birthers and the far right just before the convention. He's still scared to death of that crowd. Somebody on TV made an interesting point, too. He may well have said it exactly to raise the hackles of liberals. Because although the far right has never really warmed to Mitt, one thing they do like is people who drive liberals crazy. In other words, if liberals can't stand you, that makes the far right like you more. So according to this theory (which makes some sense), he did it partly to raise a reaction out of liberals, including possibly charges or racism - and since nobody likes to believe they're racist any more, that can cause a particularly strong counter-reaction; i.e. "those liberals think I'm racist - I'll show them!"

So much of what he posts on these boards is obviously framed to drive the liberal posters as crazy as possible. Donny has never been interested in honest discussion or debate. He posts in WE for one purpose and one purpose only: to p*ss off the liberal and progressive posters on the boards. He gets all kinds of warm fuzzies watching liberal heads explode. This definitely wasn't a joke on Romney's part. And anyone like Josh who wants to believe it was a joke is just drinking the Romney kool-aid and believing Mitt is someone he's not.
