What ticks me off, is how cavalier Newt has been about 'lack of work ethics' amongst the poor minority youth. Newt refused to work during his school career, but expects young black kids to work as janitors after school instead of focusing on their homework. H-Y-P-O-C-R-I-T-E.

Yes, I had to work almost full-time when I went to school. And it is probably why I ended up leaving without my degree during my senior year. I just couldn't take the burden any more. I decided I never wanted my children to have to face that. So I scrimped and saved from the time that my daughter entered 7th grade so that I would be able to pay for her education. I did this on a state civil service income... I made decent money but I sure wasn't rich. I accomplished my goal. I was able to pay for all of her education expenses... tuition, housing, food and books. I even gave her $300 a month spending money to pay for miscellaneous expense and have a little fun without her having to take a part-time job. Even at a state-supported school the 4 years cost me somewhere around $80K. And we did it all without either one of us having to borrow a dime. She knew the deal... I expected her to do well in school and graduate in 4 years -- no more. Which she did... she graduated with High Honors (3.98 at a very competitive school) and has done very well since then. I don't want to break my arm patting myself on the back, but I think many more parents should do that. Education today is extremely difficult to afford. Why burden your child with a lifetime of debt when they first start out? Give up the McMansion. Drive a Ford instead of a Lexus. Live BELOW your means. Anything I would have accumulated during that time would be long gone by now anyway. But my daughter received something that will last forever and she has put to good use. I know... I have gone off-topic and made this WAY too personal. But I feel strongly about it. Parents need to help their kids through college. All of my daughter's High School friends ended up with MAJOR DEBT when they graduated from college... even though their parents lived in far nicer homes than we did. Their priorities were just different. Back to Gingrich… the guy is a dangerous idiot. Whether he worked or not during college has little to do with it!

Gingrich has zero right to criticize students for 'lack of work ethic' when he himself failed to do what he expects young students to do, i.e., work as janitors after school instead of working on their homework. Newt could have worked his way through college, even part-time. But, no. He whined and whined to his family that it was *very important* for him to focus solely on his studies and not be distracted with a job. Well... why doesn't the same rhetoric hold for other students? Why did his refusal to work as a college student constitute being serious about his academic studies, whereas young minority students, including K-12, not working constitutes a lack of work ethic and laziness? The man is a hypocritical bigoted narcissistic d-bag. He has no right to judge others for not doing things that he himself refused to do.

Students, especially from disadvantaged backgrounds where their high school education was probably sub-standard, need to devote as much time as possible to their studies... not working as a janitor.
