    Uh huh.

(oh yeah, and if they join the military they can also pay for college that is more and more and more and more unaffordable to "regulars).

    Food for thought.

I do think we should give rewards to those that serve, it's just a sad state of affairs that for some, this is seen as their only way.

But it is ironic that many on the right "support our troops", but not necessarily our citizens.

I think you can be in favor of healthcare reform but not in favor of the way Obama and the Democrats are going about it. I've said before that I like some of what I'm hearing.

But when we hear the bill or Obama being labelled as socialist, communist or as a NAZI movement, this is perhaps why I characterise things as a counter.

There is a term for this: Economic Conscription. It's great because the elites need not worry about Junior getting drafted.

    There ain’t nobody hirin’
‘round here since all the jobs went
    down to Mexico
Reckoned that he’d learn himself a trade maybe see the world
Move to the city someday and marry a black haired girl
    Somebody somewhere had another plan
Now he’s got a rifle in his hand
Rollin’ into Baghdad wonderin’ how he got this far
Just another poor boy off to fight a rich man’s war

Bobby had an eagle and a flag tattooed on his arm
Red white and blue to the bone when he landed in Kandahar
Left behind a pretty young wife and a baby girl
A stack of overdue bills and went off to save the world
Been a year now and he’s still there
Chasin’ ghosts in the thin dry air
Meanwhile back at home the finance company took his car
Just another poor boy off to fight a rich man’s war

    When will we ever learn
    When will we ever see
We stand up and take our turn
And keep tellin’ ourselves we’re free

Ali was the second son of a second son
Grew up in Gaza throwing bottles and rocks when the tanks would come
Ain’t nothin’ else to do around here just a game children play
Somethin’ ‘bout livin’ in fear all your life makes you hard that way

He answered when he got the call
Wrapped himself in death and praised Allah
A fat man in a new Mercedes drove him to the door
Just another poor boy off to fight a rich man’s war

Soldiers die fighting for their country because of a choice they made.

The fact that we get college and Medical care is part of the benefits we receive because of the choice we made....

We aren't given favorable treatment over other Americans, we are given treatment due to the fact we made thee decision to fight for our country.

If soldiers did not receive medical care of college, the military would not exist as we know it now, and although some people might ride the military saying we should get rid of it... Without the military volunteer, there would have never been an America.

I am not saying you should bow down and praise the soldier because even I think we might be getting it a little too good right now, but when the economy recovers like it always does, it'll even out, like it always does....

The all volunteer military has only been around since after the Vietnam War.

Since its inception, the U.S. historically used some sort of conscription, draft, even mercenary force to meet its national security needs.

Do away with stop loss and draft every able bodied young man and young woman, gay or straight, to serve in the military for at least two years. Abusing our volunteer military with the endless redeployments through stop loss is garbage.

Either the wars are worth fighting through the draft or they're not worth fighting at all.

I thought I was government bashing. What part of my comments did you take as "bashing the military"?

The entire post, but it's OK, I have to learn to stop being so sensitive when it comes to your posts, I may be reading too much into them....

If that was not your intent, I apologize.

Steve Earle's lyrics are often very good, but have you ever heard him "sing"?
