Two different sources and two different governments say they have credible information Osama Bin Laden died last month of a water borne illness. French intel that was leaked say Bin Laden died of typhoid, but Chirac has been quick to deny, saying it isn't confirmed yet, and is upset the intel was leaked. The Saudis, on the other hand, say for a certainty Bin Laden is at least seriously ill but lack enough information just yet to confirm any death.

If this is true, it would certainly explain why we've been seeing a lot of Al-Zawahiri lately. Still and all, I won't get my hopes up just yet.

I was thinking the same thing. Could be they think they have a fix on him somewhere and they're doing this as a ruse to flush him out. A lot has been made lately about not giving a rip where he is, then Bush suddenly says he'd send an army into Pakistan if he thought it would yield Osama, and now this. A lot of this truly is mind games.

While there would obviously be a great amount of satisfaction in knowing he died because we put a bullet or fifty into him, I'll take him dying any way we can get it. His death won't end Al Qaeda, but that would really just leave Al Zawahiri, the brains behind it all anyway, and once he's finally nailed, I don't think one can underestimate what that would do to their overall cohesiveness. Al Qaeda seems more formidable when they appear to have a plan, even if it was sent from a cave. Eliminate that, and let's see how long the fervor lasts.

And as for the idea that Al Zawahiri is the brains of Al Queda, I think he's just the financial brains, and that Kalid Sheik Mohammad was the operational guy.

Instead of being caught. But republicans are incompetent liars. Proven again.

Oh wait, like reagan destroyed first america, and then the rest of the world's economic balance, and then, the criminal, reagan, took credit for destroying russia, while america was being sold off to the japanese throughout the eighties.

Which maybe wasn't that bad a deal. Japanese women are so intelligent and sensitive. Especially compared to the football moms.

The deal with bin laden is that we trained him. Now he is likely training others.

Good move on our part, of course. He is a figurehead and a rallying point. He doesn't run the whole thing, and probably is not well enough to do it anyway.
