When we were there the day after new year's 2000, the park was EMPTY. I've never seen it that empty since. But the days after are better than the days before. It's not as crowded where you're bumping elbows. You will get some rides in and hopefully a lot of the locals don't come in because they've been out the night before. Hope this helps!
