<<The Mexican government last week sent a diplomatic note to Washington, criticizing the plan for 700 miles of new fencing along the border. President-elect Felipe Calderon also denounced the plan, but said it was a bilateral issue that should not be put before the international community.>>

Funny how Mexico doesn't consider illegal immigration from Central America to be a "Bilateral issue". They just beat up the Central Americans and deport them!

Nah, it'll be more of the same. They'll continue to lobby for increased legal immigration from Mexico and amnesty for illegals.

I read yesterday that Mexico has earned the distinction of being the #1 exporter of people in the world.

What if it's a pretty fence that doesn't detract from Mexico's property values?

If you aren't poor Mexico is a fine lace to live (as long as you don't get kidnapped).

If that were true there wouldn't be a market for over 1 million new cars every year.

Its true that compared to us they are poor, but compared to the most of the world Mexico is prosperous. So prosperous that its having a devil of a time competing with countries like China, as average Mexican wages dwarf those in China (and other hell holes).

Mexico has its own illegal immigrant problem. Apparently Central Americans are willing to do the jobs that Mexicans "won't do".

As a former resident of Mexico I would say that the increased levels of illegal immigration have more to do with our open borders policies than with Mexico's poverty. Mexico was poorer when I lived there than it is today, and yet illegal immigration today dwarfs the levels from 20 years ago.

Actually, many hope to save enough money to return some day (For most it won't happen). They do think its a great place, but they also realize they can make more money here, especially if they are unskilled.

Poor people can drive cars, too. That makes no sense.

Your arguments aren't really logical. On one hand, it's very prosperous, and on the other, people leave it more than any other country. On one hand, they sell a million cars a year, on the other, people leave to find jobs, and then yet again, hope to one day go back?

None of that is really very consistent.
