I realize this guy is fairly sarcastic about it (unfortunate, since the insight is good stuff and I'd prefer keeping the discussion civilized if at all possible), but what do you guys think of his observations?

Is he way off base? If so, why? Other explanations would be cool too, anything to further the discussion.

    Thanks. :)

First of all, his presenting a theory of how things really are and then quoting various chapters and verses from the Bible to support it sounds very much like the typical Sunday sermon: the person stands up and presents whatever it is they want to present at that moment, quotes a few verses of the Bible which may or may not be taken out of context, and comes up with what appears to be a convincing argument to the audience that his presentation directly reflects the meaning of the Bible.

Regarding the specifics of the volcano theory, it sounds very much like many other explanations of natural phenomenon that have occurred in many different religions. It seems to be fundamental human nature that we want to understand the reasons for things going on around us, and very often throughout the ages, many people of many different religions have attributed to God all kinds of unusual natural phenomenon that they've never seen before or rarely happen, and that they don't understand.

Earthquakes, tsunami, eclipses, droughts, locusts, supernovae, and comets have all been subject to such explanations. It wouldn't at all be beyond the stretch for a volcano to end up being attributed to God coming down from the skies to deliver a message, especially when it is described in rather accurate detail.

As to whether that was actually the case, who knows?

It came about when Moses was coming down from Mount Sinai (and the two tablets of the testimony were in Moses' hand as he was coming down from the mountain), that Moses did not know that the skin of his face shone because of his speaking with Him. So when Aaron and all the sons of Israel saw Moses, behold, the skin of his face shone, and they were afraid to come near him.

Kind of like the burn you might get from exposure to a volcano.
