"The Mexican government is warning travelers driving into Mexico for the holiday season — many from Southern California — to move in convoys and only during daylight hours.

The recommendation signals an acknowledgement that hold-ups and violence on Mexico's roads attributed to drug-trafficking gangs could affect the holiday travel crush.

"When our own government says it's not safe to travel in our own country, it really makes you feel sad," Luis Garcia, head of one of the numerous clubs that Mexicans belong to in the Los Angeles area, said in a telephone interview from Lynwood."

Have you ever been to a city along the US border?

Not him, but I have since this whole mess started. I didn't feel afraid at all. Then again I'm not the usual gringo tourist type.

They are not the only ones fleeing the crime. My friend has always been a "dare devil", one of those people who are not afraid of anything. And yet he said in his own words that the level of insecurity is at a breaking point.

Some years ago my wife and I visited Mexico City, and we took a side trip to the pyramids. While there we noticed we were being followed (we were part of a group of 5). A group of 6 men seemed to go everywhere we went. Sun Pyramid, Moon Pyramid, etc. They were following us.

We saw some security guards and approached them. We explained the situation and they agreed that we were being accosted. Since they had yet to commit a crime the cops couldn't detain them. Instead they told us they would "have a chat" with the men, and suggested we get the heck out of Dodge, which we did.
