ORWEN: I don't know who Donna Murphy is, either, but--unlike a certain nasty old biddy--I intend to welcome her to the coven as long as she's nice enough. ORDDU: It will be interesting to see how Mother Gothel is portrayed in the Disney version. There have already been some significant changes made by Mr. Lasseter & Co. For one thing, we've read that Rapunzel's parents are to become King and Queen, whereas the original story portrayed them as mere peasants who couldn't afford to buy their own rampion. Instead they felt compelled to steal it from a witch named Gothel. ORWEN: That's why they had to make a deal with Mother Gothel that made it possible for her to trade the rampion for the little baby girl who was born to the peasant couple. ORDDU: But the Disney version seems to want to turn Mother Gothel into a kidnapper who steals away the baby from a royal couple right from the start! We can't say we approve of such a change. ORWEN: Still, it'll be interesting to see what else they do with this newest Disney witch. I haven't seen any art work of her, yet. Don't know if she'll be a glamorous witch like me--or an old hag like a certain nasty old biddy I'm always having to put up with! ORGOCH: I heard that, blubber face!! An' it's gonna' cost ya!! Fer one thing, yer nothin' CLOSE ta bein' glam'rous!! Yer not even close ta bein' a plain Jane!! Yer more like a mix 'tween Godzilla 'n Rush Lamebrain!!

But this time around it sounds like the man who rescues Rapunzel from her tower won't be a prince after all. Instead they're saying he's a bandit.

Now Mulan on the other hand ... >>But this time around it sounds like the man who rescues Rapunzel from her tower won't be a prince after all. ORWEN: We hope you're doing okay, duckling! ORDDU: In the meantme, we have no doubts that Donna Murphy will make a splendid witch. We're merely curious as to what her motivation will be for taking baby Rapunzel away from her parents, since the Disney version has changed the story so drastically that she seems to have less of a reason to want the child. ORWEN: In the original story, it was the peasant's need for rampion that was used as a bargaining chip. This new version has me wondering. Plus I hate the idea of Rapunzel using her hair as a whip and a lasso. That's so un-princess like! ORDDU: The current leaders within the Story department don't seem to know how to properly handle an old world story filled with old souls. So their only resolution is to modernize everything and create contemporary characters, thinking a modnern won't be able to relate to a true period piece these days. If that were true, the Disney versions of Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty and Snow White wouldn't be as popular as they are. A fairy tale is supposd to be timeless with as few references to the modern world as possible. Otherwise they can become so dated as time goes by that they lose their ability to have wider appeal. I don't believe Mr. Lasseter gets this. He's only intersted in appealing to the audience of today. Walt Disney was interested in appealing to many generations yet to come.
