Thanks!

The main differnce in oakland was that we took the regular "rental car shuttle" to the rental car places, then made a free phone call (from a designated phone) and a fox shuttle picked us up and took us to a nearby hotel where Fox had a kiosk in the hotel lobby. It was painless, but it did take an extra 20 minutes to get our car. I imagaine their savings come from cheaper rent off site. I noticed nothing differant in the car. Returning the car early in the morning (5am) we droped off the key and then rode the hotel's own shuttle directly to the airport: free. Slightly more hassle for a savings. you decide if it's worth it.

I finally found a website called "failed enterprise" which provides phone numbers to their corporate offices. I called, and was (finally) quickly taken care of (but a company that deliberately tries to avoid having you reach them is no good, in my book).

    Anyway, good luck!

While I feel that more people will post something negative, than they will something positive after an experience, it still made me nervous about all of the bad ones! Mousesavers.com also has a nice rental car section with coupon codes and advice and I think it even said on their site something about not being happy w/that co. (in FL, though.)
I ended up booking one through Dollar for $30 higher. I only paid $103 for the same time period last year through Thrifty and this year they were $180! Wow! Dollar was about $135.
Thanks for the tip about Enterprise! The only one we ever had trouble with was Alamo. e rented a van where the seats were put in backwards and we couldn't get the seatbelts on, trash was still in it from the previous renters, the inside lights didn't work and we had to buy a flashlight to look at maps...after complaining we got a whole $25 off of our bill! lol

Of course, if there is no problem (and my problem was a stalled car, and the manager in Vegas promised me a full refund, and then my credit card was charged), then you don't need to reach customer service of course.
