ORWEN: But as long as we still have the originals to enjoy that's what matters most. I just wish they'd come up with some original ideas for a change.

I can see the trailer already…

Tilted camera angles of mom in chains.

    Onscreen text reads: ELEPHANTS

Cut to close ups of children laughing and jeering, pointing at Mrs. Jumbo.

    Onscreen text reads: NEVER

Cut to Dumbo, trunk wrapped around the neck of one of the neck of one of the jeering kids, pulling him close, face-to-face. Dumbo's expression is one of simmering rage.

    Onscreen text reads: FORGET

Quick cuts of the big top collapsing, people running, clowns in a panic, an exploding calliope.

Then the sound of a record needle being dragged across an album. It is momentarily quiet as the camera zooms way, way down to the ground where we see Johnny Depp as Timothy, eating popcorn and watching the chaotic scene happily. "Now THIS is the greatest show on earth!" he beams.

So, moral of the story, Baby Mine in a live action Dumbo must be sung by Bette Midler.

Jon Favreau, who is directing The Jungle Book, has said his movie will not be a musical as the animated one was. However he hopes to include at least a trace of "I wanna be like you" in the score since he is such a fan of the music. My hope is that if they do that they may be inspired to include a lot of the rest of the original's music in the score.

Have you guys not heard of the magnitude of "Maleficent's" success lately? The public are primed for such concepts.

I think some of you need to re-develop a sense of fun. I don't see a live action remake as something that will tarnish the legacy of an animated classic, but as something that merely compliments it in a new way. Kids would love I believe the opportunity to see Dumbo done for real. That's exciting. And it will not ruin their enjoyment of the animated original. It's no different than when I was a kid and was left spellbound when the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles jumped onto the big screen in live action from their famous cartoon show ("Hey dudes, this ain't no cartoon!", said the 1990 tagline). I was beyond excitied and I like that Disney is attempting to recapture this style for a generation of kids today.

I saw 101 Dalmatians (1996) as a kid starring Glenn Close. It's extremely close to the animation. Every line of dialogue spoken by Cruella is lifted directly from the animation. It was magical to watch. I hoped then Disney would do more like this and it seems they have only just caught onto the idea. The possibilities of taking their animated visuals and transfering them to reality seem endless. Imagine seeing a real giant Ursula the sea witch for example towering over an ocean in one spectacular finale.
