To me, it seems only fitting that the theater that premiered Snow White would serve as a preview center. The building gets to be what it was designed to be (a theater), Disney gets to showcase upcoming films and guests get treated to new ten minute previews every few months.

    Everyone wins.

    Even better!

A ten minute preview for two or three months prior to release might have actually helped it do better at the box office.

although i loved the movie, i hated the troncore. it just didnt fit into world of color to me. it took away that feeling you get when a great show ends. the carthay circle theater could provide a spot for previews and ads....but then again....they had the tron preview at muppets yet still had the troncore....so who knows if that kind of stuff would stop popping up in the park even if they did have a preview center like that.

Those were the days. Now a days, we've been stuck with the same retrospective windows from the 50th (which were comprised of pieces from old window displays), since May 2005. Yep, almost 6 years now, with only one of the Emporium windows getting an update (to Ratatouille, which was quite a while ago). While I really enjoy the period-appropriate window trimmings in all the other windows on Main Street, which change out at least seasonally, the Emporium windows used to be a highlight of any visit to DL. These days, I don't even glance at them.

I'm not sure why they're still running the preview, since the film has been out of theaters for quite a while and will be available on DVD/Blu-Ray soon, but I heard that the Troncore was taken out about a week ago. I haven't seen it personally yet, but that's the rumor on the street!

I've wondered about this too. I know that in the past these windows were created with models that Disney used in their animation design process. Could it be, with the advent of digital technology, that Disney no longer needs to make these models?

Yes, they could do a smaller version...but part of the magic of the show is the large theater...IMHO.

That's part of the problem with shoehorning things into existing spaces.

Hey, if nothing else, it provide a fantastic photo op!

Actually, the window displays for Main Street did not include animator's maquettes. The windows were custom designed, built and installed for each film. The last feature to get a full set of windows was Lilo and Stitch (2002). A single window was installed for Ratatouille (2007). Sadly, it seems the company no longer feels the need to publicize each film as it is released.

Can anybody explain why there's a window at Greetings From California advertising the Nemo subs? It kind-of almost made sense when they were new, but now that they've been open for several years, it's literally just giving folks another reason to head toward the DCA exit.

What makes the whole window discussion particularly interesting to me is how frequently they change out the other windows on Main Street, featuring some merchandise and a lot of theme-appropriate set dressing. They always do a great job with those, but just seem to ignore the ones for the films. Interesting approach in these days, when the emphasis seems to always be adding the newest characters in to places that they may or may not actually belong.

And that's doubtless because those are paid for by the studio or Disney TV.

That's an easy one. Let's see... the Subs opened in 2007, and the display is still there. But do you know that it originally was there to promote the movie itself, way back in 2003?!? It's just a theater lobby display. They later updated it for the home video release, then for the attraction.

This is as good an example as any of how pauperized the budget for DCA has been for the last ten years. And for the last two or three I am sure they knew the whole block was scheduled for remodeling anyway-- so why bother updating the window?
