Also, the fact that it is an escape right in the middle of a city makes it seem even more magical to me. The fact that I'm now living 30 minutes from there and have an AP doesn't hurt either.

I cut you a break all the time. You insult me left and right yet I frequently endorse your WDW reviews and think that overall you are a pretty amusing guy!! What the heck more do you want from a guy in MInnesota with a frozen brain?? Legs tanned as nicely as yours? Ain’t gonna happen!!

Walt did actually walk on the spots that we all do now. As far as that goes he walked on the Florida property before he died so I guess you could say that there is history there as well. I would have to question how you can have a fear of hurricanes so strong that it would prevent you from going to WDW and not be fazed by earthquakes. At least you get a warning with a hurricane and they are usually only at certain times of the year. Earthquakes can happen at anytime, anyplace and without so much as a "look out" being uttered before it starts up. The one and only time I have been to Disneyland was in October right after Hurricane Katrina, the weather in California was unseasonably warm. It was 106 Degrees when I was there and the Santa Anna was blowing all kinds of fires just to the north of us. I can't tell you the number of times I heard locals talk about how the world was about to end and that this heat was sure to cause the "Big One" that Californians have been waiting for all this time. For a New Englander that only experienced two minor tremors in my entire 58 years I must tell you that thought was unnerving. On the other hand one time when I was in Florida and hurricane/tornado warnings were issued it didn't faze me in the least. For some reason I felt that I could "outrun" it.

I love the smell of DL, I love the intimate scale, my childhood memories. I love the huge number of attractions packed into an easy to navigate park. I love the amount of live entertainment has to offer. I love being able to enjoy a meal at noon in a night time bayou, having a world class fine dining experience (or sleep in a world class hotel) footsteps away from the parks, or just enjoy a corn dog watching the Electrical Parade. I love how Fantasmic organically comes alive in an area where we were visiting hours before. I love that 51 years of history - Walt's, international and family comes together in one place. I love the fact you can park hop in 5 minutes, rather than 50 minutes. I love that DL is the original, and my mind the best. WDW is ok. Epcot is an amazing park where my soul is refreshed as we celebrate the achievements of humanity, the wonders of science, and the diversity of the world. The dining options are sublime, the entertainment 1st rate, and the scale is amazing. I love Animal Kingdom, probably one of the most beautiful creations on earth full of fantastic attractions and amazing animal encounters far better than any zoo. I love the choice and diversity of hotels - AKL, WL, the Monorail Resorts, Boardwalk, Port Orleans, the Yacht Club - they each take you to a different world, and all have amazing views - whether an African Savannah or a beautiful lagoon. The dining choices are numerous, and the clubs, Disney Quest and La Nouba at Downtown Disney are amazing. However, the quality is poor at the MK and Studios IMHO, and the place is too big. Also, they really do dumb down the theming, especially in the MK and Studios. The maintenance is quite poor, and the experience at those two parks are overrated. I love DLP. The original park that opened in 1992 is a work of art. It has the most cohesive storytelling, and the versions of the E-tickets are the best. Enjoying a 3 course meal with fine French or Californian wines, taking in a Broadway quality show, enjoying a straight razor shave are all unique to the MK experience. The mix of cultures are the most diverse for Disney (both a good and a bad). Buffalo Bill's Wild West Show is fantastic - the best dinner show anywhere! The Studios, has some very unique attractions such as Cinemagic and Armageddon, as well as being the birthplace of the wonderful Motors Action. And the hotels, while on a smaller scale to WDW's are lovely themes with great restaurants. However, due to culture and budget, DLP does not feel as "Disney". There is very little entertainment outside of the stage shows, and do to the culture/language constraints, a number of the cast come off as grumpy and surly. Also, the cleanliness and maintenance is quite poor compared to the US resorts. Mix in very rude guests and you have a resort that just misses the mark sadly. When it opened in 1992, it really gave DL a run for it's money - but now, it needs help. But things do seem on the up.
