Jack, Will and Elizibeth worked real well in the 1st movie but I felt it had become the Will and Elizibeth story in the 2nd two with Jack really not having a purpose. I find it kinda of funny that people are complaining about 'unexplained' issues in the 4th... the 1st three where filled with them. I wouldn't mind if they do some more like the 4th.

Disney even had to issue a 'cheat sheet' explaining all the fans' questions about #3. I'd say this one rises above 2 & 3 easily. Many of the criticisms I'm reading don't seem to make any sense. "Too confusing?" That's a POTC staple. Depp "going through the motions?" He seemed like the same old Jack to me. Sounds to me like viewers are either tired of the whole franchise, Jack included, or else are so in love with Will and Elizabeth that nothing else will satisfy them. Of course, that's only how it sounds to *me*. Disney Trivia http://www.whatsitsgalore.com/...uiz.html

But the audience response says the majority don't, but they keep going back anyway.

Successful TV series are not really original week after week. Established musicians tend to get flamed by their fanbase if they go outside their genre and be original. But movies... a sequel takes a hit even before it's reviewed. Here's an example of a known 'critic' reviewing OST. BY ROGER EBERT / May 18, 2011 Before seeing "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides," I had already reached my capacity for "Pirates of the Caribbean" movies... http://rogerebert.suntimes.com...10519968 How good of review are you going to get out him with that opening? In fact... he really doesn't say what he doesn't like about the movie other then it's another priate's movie. Makes reading reviews pointless.

They're not original on day one, because what we crave from sitcoms is familiarity. We like seeing people in similar situations to us laugh and have a good time. Relationships are hard, work sucks, but we have family and friends who make life good - universal themes. Dramas don't always stay the same, and the best ones definitely don't. Film is different. We tend to want more originality. Sure, that can be defined many different ways, and we all want the same basic story structure when all is said and done. There's a reason early German post-modern cinema isn't playing on 4000 screens. And originality can exist in sequels. I've got no beef with sequels if they're done well (see The Dark Knight and The Godfather Part II). And just like even the best sitcoms wear out their welcome after descending into a dance of "what zany antics will our characters get into this week" coupled with "tonight, on a very special episode..." so do films peddling the same characters in the same stories in a different locale.

Glad I did. The mermaid scene and story alone worth it to me. It's moree about Jack ( wasn't the firstone also ?) - and pirate legends and lore. Very cool fo rme and I'd actually pay to see it again in the theatre ( although I won't pay for 3D)- we all know some critics write their reviews without ever seeing the actual movie- or all of it. SOme of them seenothing as worthy unless there is someone dying - and huge emotional trauma or social issues involved. I go to the theatre for escapism most of the time unless there is something of historical nature that has to be seen. Will this win any acting or storyline academy awards- nope ( that is a whole other argument)- but to me if you're looking for 2 hours of fantasy/fun this was well worth it and again a better efforrt than 3 for sure and likely 2. one complaint- Blackbeard could have been meaner for me... just my opinion
