    (08-28) 12:45 PDT WASHINGTON (AP) --

    [excerpts]

The national Republican Party has mailed a fundraising appeal suggesting Democrats might use an overhaul of the health care system to deny medical treatment to Republicans.

A questionnaire accompanying the appeal says the government could check voting registration records, "prompting fears that GOP voters might be discriminated against for medical treatment in a Democrat-imposed health care rationing system."

It asks, "Does this possibility concern you?"

Katie Wright, a spokeswoman for the Republican National Committee, said the question was "inartfully worded."

"The RNC doesn't try to scare people," said Wright. "We're just trying to get the facts out on health care. And that's what we do every day."

Jon Vogel, executive director of the Democratic House campaign organization, called the GOP letter "shameless fear-mongering."

Vogel wrote the Republican accusation was "just a preview of the falsehoods, fabrications and outright lies Republicans will be pushing when Congress returns in September."

The allegation is the latest instance in which some critics of the health care effort have made inflammatory unfounded claims — such as conservatives who claimed the legislation would create "death panels" that they said could lead to euthanizing elderly people.

Wright said she did not know who had crafted the wording of the survey questions, and which GOP officials had signed off on it. She also said she did not initially know how many of the surveys were mailed or to whom.

    -----------------------------------------

Coupla points - this outrageous tactic isn't from some disaffected fringe group - it's from the 'mother ship itself - the RNC. It can't be waved away by republicans as something apart from the party itself. There's no 'deniability' - although the official spokeswoman gave it a good try.

This illustrates beyond dispute what I've been saying all along - that republicans are stupid and/or complacent. Only stupid people would ever believe such a despicable lie. And only complacent people would tolerate these cynical tactics from the leadership of their own party.

I've also been saying all along that their is no depth that the republicans will not stoop to - nothing is beneath their dignity or sense of integrity. And most importantly, there is no accountability within the republican party. They can get away with these outrages because the people that vote republican will do so NO MATTER WHAT they say or do.

    Such loathesome people.

BOISE, Idaho - An Idaho Republican gubernatorial hopeful insists he was joking when he said he'd buy a license to hunt President Barack Obama.

Rex Rammell, a former elk rancher slated to run against incumbent C.L. "Butch" Otter in the May 2010 GOP primary, made the comment at a Republican rally Tuesday in Twin Falls.

Rammell told the Times-News newspaper the comment was "just a joke."

"I would never support him being assassinated," he said.

    -----------------------------------------

    Funny guy.

But to give him credit, he firmly came out as opposing the assassination of the sitting president. That may cost him quite a few GOP votes in his campaign against Governor Butch.

So why isn't the GOP leading with cost? It should be an avenue they could exploit without all the nastiness. Make them seem rational and grownup instead of this nonsense.

So now the GOP is directly sponsoring push polls. Nice.

Excellent question (though I'm sure they could manage to be nasty about it if they want to).

I can think of 2 possibilities, would love to hear more though (it's early in the AM here *yawn*).

    1) They polled it, and people largely don't care enough about skyrocketing costs.

    2) They believe that the Democrats can strongly counter that argument.

The GOP has no leg to stand on with that particular argument. May I remind you that the largest new social welfare program in the past 40 years, Medicare D, was passed:

    - When Republicans controlled both houses of Congress and the White House.

    - Created a brand new social welfare benefit with costs expected to be well over a half-billion dollars over 10 years.

    - Where not a penny of this half-billion dollars was paid for - it was completely unfunded and to be tacked onto deficit spending and the national debt.

    - At such time when the national debt and deficit was at then-record high levels.

So, it would be highly ironic and actually hypocritical for the GOP to come along at this point in time and suddenly be concerned about such things. Where was the outrage over Medicare D in 2004?

"Now" ? Mr X, you act like they just started doing this. I have a whole stack of them sitting right here that I've accumulated over the past year or so. I should start scanning them in and posting them for all to see.

Nice attempt at redirection, but it won't work. What do you mean by "your party?"

There you go again. He didn't say anything about the Dems. He only said that the Repubs suck.

    >>Yet another Democrat tax cheat, this time Charles Rangel, is reeling under an investigation from the IRS. Amazingly, Rangel has suddenly "found" nearly a million dollars in assets that somehow escaped his attention when he originally filed his tax return.

Of course, like virtually every left-wing crook, from Timothy Geithner, to Barney Frank, to Sandy Berger, there will almost certainly be zero accountability for Mr. Rangel.

Meanwhile, any Republican who is even accused of anything, no matter how blatantly erroneous, is railroaded out of office with non-stop, front-page, saturation media coverage, whether it be:

taking money from lobbyists, as with Tom Delay--every charge of which has been laughed out of court (Democrat Harry Reid took far more from Abramoff, yet no questions asked),
or firing political appointees for political reasons, as with Alberto Gonzales (Bill Clinton fired 93 federal prosecutors, for openly political reasons, but again, no questions asked),
or leaking classified information, which Lewis Libby was crucified for, even though anti-war Bush opponent Dick Armitage admitted to being the leak (the NY Times repeatedly revealed the inner-workings of highly classified anti-terror programs with impunity),
or having a relative who gets pregnant out-of-wedlock, as with Sarah Palin (while a Democratic Vice Presidential candidate, John Edwards, knocks up his mistress as he drags his wife across the country for cancer-pity votes while preaching about family values...with a near total media blackout).
Nothing will be done about Charles Rangel for the same reason that no one seems to know anything about New Jersey's stunningly widespread Democrat corruption issues, or about the 17 times President Bush went to Congress demanding that something be done about Fannie Mae, or about the woman Bill Clinton likely raped...or that Newsweek tried to bury the Monica Lewinsky scandal...or that the coke "scandal" invented against Bush was every bit as bogus as the one about his National Guard service.

Nearly 100% of news media at this point are openly partisan DNC cheerleaders with little concern for the truth.

Liberals simply cannot compete on a level playing field, so they try to control the flow of information in this country at every turn, as they have done with academia, Hollywood, and are now even starting to do with the Internet.<<

Oh please, is this some kind of joke or something? Liberals control the media?? I thought that myth died years ago - around the same time that Fox News became so popular among conservatives.

Personally, I'd say all types of media in this country are pretty evenly split - with people listening to the sources they agree with, and nothing else.

Oh yeah, that's a clear-eyed, non-biased look at things. (rolls eyes).

Sources like this (whether left-wing or right) that are so "Us GOOD, them BAD" as to be laughable, warp one's views and present the world in stark black-and-white, good-and-bad terms that are comforting to the weak-minded, but transparent b.s. to most people.

Posting from such sources (and others such as newsmax, which DB has also treated us to) indicate an inability to see such a skewed source for what it is. Which says something about the poster.
