Unfortunately, Miami police and 50 State Security, tasked with protecting Miami's rail system, didn't get the memo. After a series of incidents across the nation of photographers being harassed by overzealous security guards and cops, a group of photography advocates decided to see how much they could photograph on the Miami rail system before they get stopped. They didn't even get inside the first station before the following happened.

    <a href="http://carlosmiller.com/2010/07/01/we-were-permanantly-banned-from-the-miami-dade-metrorail-for-taking-photos/" target="_blank">http://carlosmiller.com/2010/0...-photos/</a>

"By the time it was over, three hours after a security guard told us it was against the law to take pictures in the parking lot of the Douglas Road Metro Station in Miami, a 50 State Security Captain had banned us for life from ever setting foot on the Metrorail again."

To this day, there is no law prohibiting photography on Miami-Dade Transit.

However, I think most people do not care about this issue and would actually side with police in most cases where photographers are harassed. That's the feeling I get when this topic comes up on non-photography web sites.

Go to any baseball game and when that part of the anthem is sung people still get all emotional. They still believe it it even if its demonstrably untrue.

What do you make of Anderson Cooper's assertion that the media is being barred from filming in a number of oil spill areas?

I would rather we make it true.

    Tragic, but hardly surprising.

For decades we've received a largely sanitized version of war (compared to decades past, with such graphic images from Korea and Vietnam for example), obviously the press is being censored, or bribed, or both.

Why would this oil spill be any different? It reflects badly on big oil AND the government.

But how can that be? Conservatives are always saying how we need less government and that private enterprise can take care of most things and that people should use "common sense" and all would be well.

    Huh?

Most people here know I decry the dumbing down of our country in general as much as anyone... but how does the above even follow? Especially in this case? The people detained seemed to know the law better than the people doing the detaining.
