The superior quality of the IMAX sound system adds a whole other level to the film. While I am sure Disney will try this with other films, if the rerelease proves to be a success, I personally would love to see more done specifically for the larger screen format. As for merchandise available, I think Disney should have offer more, particularly things suitable for adults. For example, with "Fantasia 2000," adult t-shirts were available, but the B&B offerings seem mostly more geared toward children.

It looked so great to see the animation so big, we found ourselves noticing all kinds of background details you just don't see on your TV screen. The Human Again sequence was very well done, I thought. That's a fun song, anyway. If you love B & B, you MUST go see it on the Giant Screen!!

I got around to seeing this tonight at the IMAX theater in Irvine (even though it's no longer called "IMAX") .. and I've got to give credit ...

The whole screaning looked and sounded WONDERFUL!

I'm glad they didn't do to Beauty & the Beast, as they did to the "Sorcerer's Apprentice" number in Fantasia...by blowing up a 35mm image to the 8 perf 70mm "Imax" frame.....

(I know it's not possible anyway with the original cels of Fantasia not *exactly* archived like they do now.)

But, reformating it, going back to each frame from their source of some 9,000 CD-ROMs..... An incredible painstaking process, no doubt!!!!

The image was sharp with incredible clarity. Great sound. The opening with the forest, water fall, and castle in the background took my breath away on the 60x40 foot screen.

The "Human Again" number inserted as if it were part of the original 1991 film ... was seamless.

Blending the water splash into the bath sequence for the Beast was excellent.

The only thing I think could have made it look better was going to Technicolor instead of Kodak to utilize their IB Tech (Die Transfer) process (which they have resurrected) which would have brought out even more depth of clarity (almost like a 3D image) and improved color saturation.

Unfortunately, Disney would rather keep their relationship with (the more lucrative) Kodak, than go to a company that has seen better days in terms of revenue ... but is a superior color process over Kodak.

That's why you see in the credits by many films of today...

    color by Technicolor

    prints by Kodak

Instead, this issue of Beauty and the Beast is what it is. Not the absolute best ... but fairly darn good.

I did notice it did not fit the screen perfectly. What with the screen (in a sense) letterboxed.

Still .... a great showing, and I plan to see it again.

A wonderful masterpiece from a time when Disney animation was at the top of their game again.

I hope I can say the same for the theme park division some day.
