The penultimate song, non-religious, and brings comfort to my soul....sing it, Bing! Love that movie (although the song was first introduced in "Holiday Inn")
    2. Merry Christmas, Darling / Carpenters
I miss Karen. My favorite alto and my role model. The lush harmonies she and her brother Richard did....what a beautiful, romantic song this one is. ♥
    3. Silent Night / Manhattan Transfer
This is my most favorite Christmas carol and it is the most touching song to be, by far. An inspired song....heavenly.
    4. Silver Bells / Gloria Estefan
I just like the Latin infusion given to this arrangement....it's just so cool and it makes me happy.
    5. Baby, It's Cold Outside / Barry Manilow and the Unnamed Woman who Bugs
I'm not sure who she is, but she kind of gets on my nerves sometimes. Barry, however, sings the heck out of this arrangement.

Now, quite honestly, I could list 100 more songs. Christmas songs are just right up there with Disney songs for my most favorite kind. I hope some of you list many more deserving ones...I feel like I'm cheating by leaving out SO MANY deserving songs!

PS The only version of Blue Christmas I like is by the DJ doing it as Porky Pig. xoxo

    Your Worst 5 Christmas/Holiday Songs

    1. Happy Christmas (War Is Over)by John Lennon and Yoko Ono
I expect everyone (Villains!) to hate me, but I can't help it, this song puts me in the worst mood. The only part I like is the whispered "Happy Christmas" in the beginning.
    2. Pretty Paper by Roy Orbison
I do not like songs designed to give me a guilt trip.
    3. Christmas Shoes by Bob Carlisle
(See reason number two....I do not like to cry to Christmas songs....sorry, TINK-MOBILE)
    4. Step Into Christmas by Elton John
Love his music, especially the first two albums, but this song makes me want to poke my eyes and ears out.
    5. Do They Know It's Christmas by Band-Aid
    (See reason number 2)

    5. I Saw Daddy Kissing Santa Claus

    Your Worst 5 Christmas/Holiday Songs

    1. Grandma Got Run Over By a Reindeer (Makes me shutter just thinking about it)
    2. Do They Know Its Christmastime (I'm sorry... "Well tonight thank god its them instead of you"?! Dumbest lyrics ever)
    3. Blue Christmas (I usually really like Elvis.... can't stand this song)
    4. 12 Days of Christmas (Its too long, too repetitive and the only lyrics anyone knows are "FIVE GOLDEN RINGS!")
    5. Please, Daddy (Don't Get Drunk This Christmas).... (Has there EVER been a more depressing 'Christmas' song?!)

Thanks, Kar2oonMan...she just sounds too "old" and not young enough for me...I'd like to put Vanessa Williams in there with Barry. Or Ella.

I love this song – it’s sexy, provocative, cheeky and flirty, and for pete’s sake it’s Dino! Not traditionally a Christmas song, but I say let’s change it up a bit. I mean, really…Who else can convince an innocent gal to stay a little longer to have a cigarette just cause it’s beginning to snow? That Dino, what a smoothy!

    2. LET IT SNOW x3 / Frank Sinatra
I absolutely love love love Frankie’s voice on this song. You can’t beat it. Unless of course, Dean Martin is singing it instead.

    3. THE CHRISTMAS SONG / NAT KING COLE
What’s better than having your chestnuts roasted, I ask ya! That’s right, nothing. Nothing at all.

    4. MAKING CHRISTMAS / DANNY ELFMAN
Being the hauntmeister general, how can I call the holidays a holiday without tossing in a little NBC?

    5. MR. GRINCH / DR SEUSS
Your soul is an appalling dump heap overflowing with the most disgraceful assortment of deplorable rubbish imaginable mangled up in tangled up knots.

Oh yeah – enough said about that song!

    My Worst 5 Christmas/Holiday Songs

    1. CHRISTMAS ISLAND / ??
Ok, really?? Christmas in a warm climate with no hot chocolate or marshmallows, but instead sand in my hot toddy? Paah – leeesse.

    2. Feliz Navidad / Jose Feliciano
This is one of those songs that I really really hate. It’s repetitive and annoying, yet when it plays I can never seem to get it out of my head. My brain just keeps humming it and humming it and humming it, then the hips start sweeping back and forth and the hands and arms come up in a “shake your maracas” pose…holy crud I hate this song.

    3. I SAW MOMMY KISSING SANTA CLAUS / THE JACKSON 5
I have seen mommy kissing Santa Claus lots of times. Why in the hell didn’t I think about writing a song about it and making millions? I guess I’m glad I didn’t, though, because maybe now I would have a nose like a pixie, a confusing skin pigment color, and more legal woes than I care to shake a stick at.

    4. THE TWELVE DAYS OF CHRISTMAS
This song reminds me of Lamb-Chop’s “song that never ends”. It’s grueling. It’s only fun when some redneck rewrites the words.

    5. THE LITTLE DRUMMER BOY
The only version of this song that I can stomach is the one by David Bowie and Bing Crosby. Pure genious. The other versions can sleep with my smelly socks.

From the Peanuts Christmas special. I like just about every instrumental version of this classic.

    2. Sleigh Ride/Brian Setzer Orchestra
A rockin' swinged-up version of an old favorite.

    3. White Christmas/The Drifters
Love Bing, but The Drifters own this song.

    4. Let It Snow/Harry Connick Jr.
    Yeah!

    5. Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas/Diana Krall
"If the fates allow" -- Gets me every time.

    Your Worst 5 Christmas/Holiday Songs

    1. Grandma Got Run Over By a Reindeer/Dr. Elmo
Wow. A novelty song should be short. This thing seems to go on longer than "Freebird."

    2. Feliz Navidad/Jose Feliciano
Okay, okay already! It's peppy and all, but how many times can a song repeat the same line?

    3. Last Christmas/George Michael
    See "Feliz Navidad"

    4. All I Want for Christmas is You/Mariah Carey
All I want is her to stop singing. I'd listen to Feliz Navidad 50 times over this one.

    5. Step Into Christmas/Elton John
Another stinker that brings out the Grinch in me.

    3. "Mary Did You Know?" (vocalist unknown) The first time I heard this song it brought me to tears.
    4. "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas" by Judy Garland. (See "White Christmas".)
    5. "The Christmas Song" by Nat King Cole
    (same as two and five)

(honorable mention): "Christmas Time is Here" and since it's not a Christmas song I must say I love "The Hannakah Song" by Adam Sandler.

    Worst Christmas songs:
    1. "Oh Holy Night" sung by anyone other than Celtic Women. Why is it people who don't have pure-sounding voices think they can sing that song???
    2. "Christmas Shoes" oh...my...word...What an absolutely DREADFUL song!!!
    3. "Last Christmas" by George Michael
    4. "Wonderful Christmas Time" by Paul McCartney
    5. "War is Over" by John Lennon
The last three are waaaaaaaay overplayed and just bad, bad, bad!

So many more bad Christmas songs....

    1. It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year / Andy Williams

Used to watch his Christmas specials, and his songs appeared on the Firestone
LPs we bought each year. Great stuff.

    2. Sleigh Ride / Leroy Anderson is the composer. It's an Instrumental played by The Boston Pops I think I love it.

    tied with...

    2. Santa Clause is Comin' to Town / The Boston Pops

Another instrumental -- it's very cool.

    3. The Christmas Song (Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire) / Nat King Cole

Was track #1 on one of those Firestone albums -- fantastic arrangement. Cole has a warm soothing voice.

    4. Mark This Holiday / Robert Goulet

Lesser known song. Again, off one of those Firestone albums.

    5. Merry Christmas Darling / The Carpenters

I know. it's corny and cloying and sappy -- but it works for me.

    6. All I Want for Christmas is You / Mariah Carey

Not a big fan of Carey, but this is a lot of fun.

Jim in Merced CAs Worst 5 Christmas/Holiday Songs

    1. Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer

    2. Any of the songs featuring cats or dogs meowing or barking a Christmas Carol

    3. Please Mr. Jesus.
That one with the little girl singing about getting physically abused by her parents. Merry Christmas one and all!

    4. The Twelve Days of Christmas
Any one of those that changes the lyrics and becomes sarcastic and mocking and mean-spirited -- hate them.

    5. Merry Christmas (War is Over) John Lennon

sorry lovers of John Lennon. I only found out recently that it was John Lennon. Before that I used to hear it and think 'who's butchering that song?'

    >>I have seen mommy kissing Santa Claus lots of times ... a nose like a pixie, a confusing skin pigment color, and more legal woes than I care to shake a stick at.<<

Just for the record, that song was introduced in the early 50s by an annoying kid named Jimmy Boyd. The Jackson 5 version is but one of hundreds of remakes.

I plan to chime in with my list, but only after I review the track lists from the Christmas Tapes/CDs I've been sending out as Christmas cards for (most of) the last 20 years. (Wow! It's the anniversary!) Otherwise my top 5 will end up with 73 songs in it, to which I will continue adding until the 4th of July at least.

PS - How can you not like "Happy Xmas (War is Over)" by John and Yoko? It was produced by Mr. Christmas himself, Phil Spector!

Also for the record, we were asked to name the song and the artist. My choice was Jackson 5.
