This information is given to guests when the take the Holiday Time at Disneyland tour which is given at the park. Yes there are branches added to fill it out. The pine smell is added because the fireproofing material they use prevents the real smell from coming through.

They have improved it immensely from past years.
The tour guide mentioned the tree is real and parts of another tree used to fill in holes, and as said above pine scent is added because of the fire retardant.

I love the Disneyland tree and think it's stunning but I couldn't help feel a bit guilty as I looked up at this magnificent tree, that had been cut down for us all to enjoy and would end up on the scrap heap after Christmas.

It would make it a bit better if he can recycled for the garden.
