All the characters gave him so much attention because it was his birthday (more than the kids in some cases!!) and they gave him this great birthday dessert thing covered in gummy worms and oreos and such and a special birthday button besides the one he already had from City Hall. It was so much fun!!!

Although, the Pat E. Cake Bday party at the Plaza Inn is great fun and only $10 per person. It's fun decorating your own mini mouse ears cake and you get a wonderful one on one photo op with Minnie and Mickey.

Don't forget to pick up a Bday pin and ask for front row on your favorite rides.

Take the Picture with Mickey and Minnie, this is a rare opportunity as an adult to get a pic with the two of them , and not get mobbed by a gazillion kids.
Take it for what it is, silly disney fun. I did it for my 25th b day. I probably won't do it again until I have kids.
I preferrred the character breakfast at the plaza inn. The food was fabulous and the characters walk right up to you and interact with you. Chip was giving me guff because i had two plates of food. (eggs and potatoes and bacon on one and waffles with strawberries and whipped cream on the other.)
    Enjoy your DW's birthday.
    love Cheshire Cat

What I do is I get the birthday bucket for the birthday kid and then I get the bags for each of the kids, including the birthday kid because their items are not included in the bucket too. The buckets are about a foot tall and about 8" in diameter with a character-like shaped top. The top comes open with a large cupcake and a candle in it. The bucket is savable and it has inside a birthday pin, a little plush character key chain, and a couple of other little toys. I think the bucket is available at all the character meals.

There were tons of characters, but we had only 2 visit us in 2 1/2 hours. The couple next to us sat with us on the monirail after. The lady said she had noticed that we had only a couple characters visit. They were sad for our 5 year old. We called the Manager and he said that we could come down and get a picture with any Character we chose in the morning. Sad to say we left the next morning!

Did you say anything to the CM's there when this happened.....when there were a lot of characters there but they didn't come to your table?

We been to Goofy's Kitchen about 4 times and with regard to character interaction, the first time was excellent, the second time was not bad, the third time was okay and the fourth and last time was more like you described and we also found it very disappointing.
Based on my limited knowledge, it seems to depend on how busy it is and where you are sitting as to the character interaction you get.
The good times we were seated at tables close to when you enter the restaurant but the last two times we were seated close to where the characters exit which seems to be a bad place because you see the characters interacting with all the other guests and then they are disappearing out the exit.
Our last visit I booked a brunch on a Saturday as I thought it was better to be at Disneyland when it was not busy.
However, we found it to be very crowded and a lot of birthday parties.
I must say that based on information we got here we did speak to our server and he did ensure that more characters visited us but we felt we had to be alert and ensuring that we were not being missed so it really lacked the enjoyment of the first visits.
We still want to try it again when we go in October so what is everyone's advice for getting the best character interaction.
    Breakfast, brunch or dinner?
    Specific times
Any specific day of the week?
    Any other suggestions?

The place is very uncrowded and the characters almost sit and join you for your whole meal. We've done this a few times. They have Lilo, Stitch, Minnie, and I forgot who else. The only problem is that even if you might have liked the food earlier, it is old and not replenished during that last hour. Be careful not to go too late because when there aren't many people there, they like to let the characters go early. They did come and ask us if that would be okay before they let the characters go.

I booked Goofy's Kitchen last time out of sheer laziness. We were staying at DLH and I didn't feel like walking over to PPH.

Goofy's Kitchen was my first character meal as well as my kids'. We got autographs at our table from the mad Hatter(kept coming over to offer us some "tea"), Goofy (stayed for 20 seconds), Snow White, Chip and Dale, Pluto (was awesome! played with my older son for 5 minutes pretending to lick his head).

Since that was our first and only character meal was that a lot of characters? About right?
My 3 yr old was sad that Goofy blew him off, that's his favorite.

They would get to a table beside us and then turn around and leave. We took our kids to every character meal possible on this trip. The only place that had Goofy was Goofy's Kitchen. I would say the two favorite character meals for our kids were Plaza Inn and Lilo and Stitch at PPH. The best birthday greeting came from our breakfast at Storyteller Cafe (??). Great food, great service and a wonderful birthday greeting.
