In order to convince anaheim they promised low income housing. So the project is being sold as a low income housing project but the reality is that out of the 1500 house only a little over 100 will actually be low income housing. In order ofr Sun Cal to build the houses the area where the property is located needs to have its zoning changed. In 1994 the city, county and state with the help of Disney came up with a proposal to create the Anaheim resort boundaries. In return Disney agreed to take responsibility to take over payments for the city if at any point the city had problems paying certain debts. Now its 2007 and Sun Cal with the help of a couple city council want to rezone the area which would basically destroy the whole purpose of creating the resort to begin with. By allowing the area to be rezoned it would open the gates for other developers to build on resort property eventhough it will not be something that will maintain the resorts intentions. Remember how Anaheim used to look like before the resort district was created. Sleezy motels everywhere (which by the way had problems with prostitution and monthly rental leases) Large un-uniformed signs and billboards and dozens of liquor stores. Now imagine that happening again if these two city council members and Sun cal consstruction company get their way to rezone the area. It would be easy for anyone to buy property in the area and built practically anything. Disney has a major plan for the area. A third gate is being re-considered, three to four more Disney hotels and DVC hotels are being considered also. Disney also wants to expand its entertainment area as well. The area where the housing is being proposed is adjecent to land Disney owns and other land that Disney has been trying to purchase. Eventually Disney would like to re-develop the whole block surrounding the proposed land for the third gate. This would make better establish the resort with Disney's three gates, The Garden Walk and the convention center. Not to far you would have the Platinum Triangle with its large retail areas, the Anaheim stadium, and Anaheim would really like to have the NFL their instead of Los Angeles. So you see on one side Anaheim wants to establish themselves as a full fledge tourist detsination and have its name become as familiar as Orlando and on the other hand you have a couple city council members being stubborn on practically destroying the resort area for a few low income houses which could be built on other pieces of property right outside the resort boundaries.

Because of that, just about everybody in the DL area came after it was established and still feel that they have a right to complain. They should just shut up and enjoy the fact that they are so close to DL, and can pretty much go any time they want.
