For my birthday one of my friends bought me a subscription to Playboy. I don't why he did but I guess he was trying to be nice.

Anyway I've been dating this girl for about 2 months now. She's over at my house last night so we can watch Survivor and have dinner together. Well in my straightening up of the house I forget to put away an issue of Playboy. I never left it out before because I don't know how she would have reacted.

Well she sees the magazine and says "oh you read that?" Of which I gave the standard no I just read the articles reply which are pretty good and I do read. But then she said she doesn't care, it's not like it was Penthouse or Hustler. And she felt it was a well done magazine.

So my question is would any of you ever be offended if you saw a Playboy magazine that your husband or boyfriend had one? I was a little taken back by her reaction.

I feel it has it's place in society. Girls can make a few bucks when they otherwise wouldn't be able to make a quick pile of cash; it's very artistic at times (and sometimes funny as in "my, my pants just fell of whatever shall I do? I know, put my finger in my mouth and pout!), and the articles are indeed very well written.

Nor have I in the past.

Honestly, I don't like Playboy or Playgirl. I think it's degrading and sends out the wrong message to young women and men about their self-worth and their bodies. I also don't like Barbies, Chippendale dancers, the movie Pretty Woman and most things along those lines. I don't think I'm a prude or uptight, I just don't like the message. I often wonder why we have to go to this level?

However, I believe in the freedom of choice. So, if it were my husband I guess I'd sit down and talk about why he felt the need to have it and I'd express my feelings. We'd go from there. I think if he was open and honest about it, I'd have less problems with it.

However, I wouldn't encourage it being in my house.

I've subscribed to Playboy before. I get a kick out of seeing the celebrity photos. I wouldn't have any problem if I found it at a friend's house, male or female.

Well, were you keeping it in the bathroom? That would make me LAUGH. ;-)

I agree that if I discovered it hiding under the bed I would be MAD, imagining him sneakily buying /reading it ( do men really READ those mags?) but if he told me about it, then that would be better. Better, not great. lol. I would still think that he might be comparing them to me!

When I was MUCH younger (20's) I subscribed to both Playboy and Penthouse. My wife was aware of both subscriptions and had no problem with them.

In fact I would have to guess she has greatly enjoyed a thing or two over the years that I'd never heard of before reading the "Letters to the Penthouse Forum".

    ;-)
