It's like redo'n Bambi frame for frame with only the addition of a CGI fox voice by Chris Rock. After seeing the pics and reading Westsider's report I can see the merit with a lot of the upgrade work that was done. I just don't put much value on their justification to mix two different looks with the characters. And for me the more AAs the merrier. You might not take it this far, but as mentioned on the WoM/POTC thread, I find the Jack Sparrow AAs to clash more than the WoM figures. From what I have seen it could have been much worse, but I don't think that alone makes this look any less piecemeal. Especially with the addition of a "pirate ghost" of the looks of Davy Jones.

Does anybody know if the Jack Sparrows are just redressed AA's that already existed. It seems to me that the one in the barrel could very easily be the girl, just with a different face and hair. Also, with the WOM characters being removed, do you think that they could have just been turned into Jack? They easily could have turned the original captain into Barbosa as well. I know that AA's are really expensive and they try to reuse them whenever possible (Splash Mountain...), so it wouldn't be anything too new. If so, I really like how they are willing to completely redo them so they don't look similar to how they started. I just wish they looked more similar to the rest of their surroundings.

If those AAs were all in place until the ride closed, I don't believe they would have been able to change them to Cap'n Jack so quickly. Just my take on it. And on the "angular" thing... The original Captain on the Wicked Wench was angular, so's the Redhead... There may be others, but those definitely come to mind.

I'm still out of town and like many LP out of town readers who couldn't experience this I'm anxious to see the coverage of the ride and the premiere.

It looks great but it's a bit disconcerting if you think too much about it. The Davy Jones screen effect is great but too quick. You miss some if the boat is moving quickly (which they were yesterday to cover the crowd!). They cranked up the fog, too, near the Wicked Wench. Someone on our boat thought that was the first Jack figure when it was Barbosa! "- D I had had my doubts about messing with a classic but this time they did all-right.

All the "67" AAs have a caricaturized look to them. I'm sure if Dean Jones did a pirate movie in the mid 60s like "That Darn Pirate" .... it would be the same thing. I think it's passable. 2 of the Jack Sparrow AAs are distanced enough from other AAs to "blend" in to the OVERALL picture. Now, in the chase scene .. next to the hunched-over AA .. perhaps on my second trip ... I'll have to take another look.

But I feel that this issue is addressed in the new dialogue. By calling attention to the fact that the "infamous Capt. Jack Sparrow" is loose in town, it makes his celebrity status a part of the experience. The final scene is, to me, a little icing on the cake. The final lift was always rather a let down after all the acivity that preceded it. (You may note that in the WDW version, they take the guests out of the boats before the lift.) Adding Capt. Jack, singing and toasting, is for me a good addition.
