I've never seen such a dark and grainy print as the one used on this dvd which is supposedly "restored"? I've read elsewhere that the same restoration process that was bestowed on "Snow White" wasn't used here yet the "Silly Symphony" shorts included with "Dumbo" look infinitely better than the feature itself. Just wondering if any other fans were as disappointed as I was.

Honestly it looks only a little bit better than a vhs image, but not much. Also i noticed this wierd "flickering" of the image. I then compared it with the dvds of two other movies done at the same time, Snow White & Pinocchio, well the diferences are pretty obvious. Snow & Pinnochio are clear, grain free prints w/ none of that "flickering" but not so Dumbo.

So what gives here? At first maybe I thought I had a dud dvd copy, but now I see I'm not the only one. Is it a bad transfer? Is it b/c Snow & Pinocchio are thx versions & Dumbo isnt? Did anyone else in LP notice this? Please let us know! Im very upset about this! I'm very picky about the image quality of these animated films. I still wont buy the Pocahontas dvd b/c I heard that the transfer is grainy too, even though my laserdisc of the movie is pretty horrible as well.

The picture is much better than VHS, but not as good as I would have expected after the killer restoration job on "Snow White."

Seems I read somewhere that the source elements for the "Pocahontas" DVD were the same as what was used for the laserdisc version, thus the substandard picture there.

Disney are the kings of prioritizing, and I'm sure Walt's first true masterpiece and the ultimate landmark in animation takes precedence over a 64-minute movie about a flying elephant that's been on open video release since 1984.

The sad thing is, I like Dumbo ten times better than Snow White, but even I have to see the truth in my suffering.
