My dad is of retirement age. He notes back when they set retirement age at 65 it was because you were "old" at 65. Now a lot of his collegues (including himself) have decided not to retire. My dad notes 3 of my grandparents are either in their late 80s/early 90s or went on around that age. that leaves a couple of decades or so of "decent" living past retirement age... 40 is nowhere near that.
