I'm just going to get right to the red carpet. I went with two other friends. We arrived at DL at about 3:25am, and there was already a massive line. When we got to the turnstiles to get in, it was a mad dash for Main Street. One of my friends got a spot near the cinema, but it was already so packed that I kept going. Ended up with a spot on the front line, right down by the castle, in front of the photo shop. After sitting there for almost an hour, my friend and I decided we weren't willing to wait for 11 more hours. Unfortunately, we got split up from our other friend who had the backpack with blankets, ipod, etc. So, we just got up and went to breakfast. We communicated via cell phone with the friend up by the cinema all day long. We walked righ on to almost every ride. By close to 3 pm, we got a call saying that there were some people trying to work there way into the roped off section in front of the cinema and that if we wanted to get in, we needed to head over, so we did.

From 3pm up until the premiere, we stood in line right in the mid-day sun. Needless to say, I got a terrible sunburn. At this point, we were 2nd in line. As the evening progressed more and more people got under the rope and stood behind us, including some extremely vulgar autograph hounds. Their remarks made things very unpleasant for everyone. We also had the misfortune of a husband/wife photographer team weasel their way in. I'm certain their photos were going to be sold on ebay or something, and the wife was very pushy and rude.

On the plus side, we got the free mouse ears and stickers.

As the stars arrived, my friend that had originally held the spot in the morning, got autographs from everyone. I didn't want autographs, but photos, which I'm glad I got, because after looking at all of the autographs, only a few are actually legible. Here are the photos I took:

It wasn't in the budget for me (son in grad school) but I'm happy that my friends were able to experience the magic and that they shared their stories and pictures with me. I can imagine the excitement that the park must have been charged with that day. I'm sorry that a few people cast a shadow on your enjoyment of the event but as we all know there are 2 kinds of people, Disney personalities and non-Disney personalities. Disney personalities can feel the magic. I feel sorry for the others because they never will. I enjoyed your post and also your pictures. Thanks for sharing.

I'd have been right with you, deciding after an hour of sitting that I didn't want to sit all day. Getting on so many rides and then pictures too, sounds like a really memorable day :)
