First off... the WEATHER! Man, has this been a gorgeous summer! The temps all summer have been mild and pleasant. Nearly consistent 82 degree days with 65 degree nights. Have you seen the weather they suffer through back East? Texas in a humid deathgrip heatwave, Florida with the usual humidity and rain and oppersive air, the Midwest with rolling thunderstorms and tornados and flooding. No thanks, I'll take sunny and dry SoCal any day of the week. And this summer is going down as one of the mildest, most pleasant, and most golden summers in memory. And another great thing about Disneyland and SoCal, the air quality is so much improved. Smog is a word that the new generation doesn't even now about. When was the last time we had any kind of Smog Alert in OC? 10 years ago? 15 years ago? Even in the Inland Empire they rarely go above "Moderate", which in Beijing would be like "Abnormally Sterile Air". I remember as a kid when your lungs would hurt on the Smog Alert days, but those ended 15 years ago and they've never returned. The air just keeps getting cleaner and crisper year after year, with Smog Alerts a relic of the 20th century. Things really are great here in SoCal this summer, especially compared to many other parts of the country and what they have to put up with day after day. I'm really very glad Walt picked OC to build his little park in, aren't you?

You mean the weather that prevents special holiday fireworks from being performed and the earthquakes that shut down the entire park during an operational day? Lovely weather..

I appreciate the positive post, Westsider. There are positives and negatives to everything and every place. Southern California does generally have great weather and I'm glad that DL is there. I hope you who live there are enjoying the mild summer and DL. I just wish I could go more often.

But you look outside and realize what a great summer we are having, and how much fun working and playing at Disneyland is, especially lately. Big things coming next door at DCA too! And when I was at the CM coffee cart at Harbor Point on Friday I saw the new blue monorail go by in the dusky sun and it looked jaw droppingly beautiful! Cheer up, things are pretty great this summer at Disneyland! (Was I not supposed to post that on a Disneyland message board?)

He moved from SoCal years ago, and he was amazed at the views he saw the day before from the top of the Sun Wheel without any smog fowling the vista of Santa Catalina and the San Gabriel Mountains. He said you never would have been able to see that far in the 1960's and 70's, especially in summer. While I just caught the tail end of the 20th century smog in my youth, I had to agree with him that things have really improved when it comes to air quality. Just another nice thing to remember about how great summer at Disneyland is now. (Was that inappropriate for a Disneyand message board too?)

I have been working at Disneyland for about a month now and I have never had so much fun at a job! I can tell just by crossing Town Square that the guests are really enjoying the amazing weather. Also, westsider, what time did you see the new monorail? I'm always working at night/late afternoon and I have not seen it yet. But when I first saw monorail red, I had the same reaction, jaw droppingly beautiful! Oh, mousemerf, I didn't know earthquakes were part of the weater. haha jk tho, I know what you mean. But in Florida, don't they have to worry about hurricanes? and realllllllly realllllllly humid summers? I think I would take the dry socal with the earthquake maybe every other year.

I'm more freaked out about it than you are, probably. (Well, I'm probably not, but I'll bet I'm close up there!)

You can really tell when the Santa Anna winds have come through, as you can actually see the mountains east of DL for a few days. I'm sure your air quality is improving, which is good. But let's not go overboard here - SoCal still has a long way to go, OC included. But I do appreciate your sentiment!

And a strong majority who had been to both parks still liked Disneyland as much, if not more than the Florida park. Certainly the Disney complex down in FL is quite the resort. But that doesn't change the fact that Disneyland will always be THE park that has very special meaning being that it is the original, and the one that Walt actually walked in. No matter how big the FL resort becomes, it will never have what makes the park in Anaheim so special.

My last WDW trip I considered stopping going to Disney resorts all together. My last trip to DL made me a born again DL Fan!

Central Florida blows, trust me. It's nice to go there for a week or so, IF you want to go ride rides in theme parks, but that's IT. Orange Country/SoCal is freakin amazing. One of the coolest places on Earth. I've always thought so, but a day trip with Darkbeer and Co definitely sealed the deal, we saw mountains, vistas, incredible beaches, casinos, lovely San Diego, and were back at my Disneyland area hotel in time for dinner. Can't do THAT in Florida. And earthquakes? Tell that to my Florida relatives that spend a full FOURTEEN days sitting around there house in the blistering Florida sun without electricity eating MRE's and venturing in shifts from the house trying to locate potable water...just a few years ago. Sure, Central Florida has been spared thus far the full brunt of a hurricane, but so wasn't New Orleans til they weren't. Pu Leeze
