My wifebear is curious about this.

Do the street performers grab you? Chase you? Touch you in anyway? Say creepy things? Just jump out at you?

Are rides and restaurants open, or do people just run around screaming?

Is it fun? What type of clientele does it attract?

Don't miss the hanging. All restaurants and fast food places are open and there are a lot more beer places this year than before. The clientel is varied from punky kids to older folks so keep that in mind.

In the past, Darkbeer has posted a list of "ratings" of the mazes, most are more gross than scary. Maybe ask HAUNTS for her opinion if your wife is like me and prefers to know ahead of time what the scare factor is.

We've done the dinner, 2 themed rides, the hanging,a few mazes, a couple of magic type shows (both were pretty funny) a stroll though the park and out. The 2 times we've gone, the ride lines are just as long as during the day.

As HAUNTS wrote, the gouls do not touch you but do jump out, slide in, dash by and follow. They seems to follow the teens and screamers though, which is good for me :)

Again, the hanging is a must see!

It's a fun experience. I'm glad we went the 2 times we did but are now waiting to go again when some of our "kids" want to go. The 2nd time we went we were starting to feel like 2 old geezers late in the evening :p but then again we are :)

I love it!

Went last year. I try to go once every 2 years.

Last time .. I did a package that included a one night stay at Knott's hotel that included admission, a dinner on the night of the haunt. And the next morning. Worth it!

But what was not mentioned yet in this topic yet .. in addition to the ghouls who do launch out at you .. plus some 12 mazes ... but a few of the bigger rides are themed to Halloween.

2 of Knott's best attractions (Timber Mountain Log Ride, and the Calico Mine Train) are both redecorated for the Halloween theme - AKA .. Disneyland's Holiday theme layovers like 'small world' and Haunted Mansion. Mind you ... it's not quite the "polished" quality one would expect at a "Disney" park .. none the less .... it's still well done enough to make it fun and enjoyable.

Most to all the other rides on the park are open.

But when you go make your plan ....

Plan your evening around "The Hanging" first. Pick your time to see it. There's some 3 showings that night. Maybe 4.

Make the two rides I mentioned your second priority.

And the dozen mazes second.

Every year .. Knott's pulls out some of the same mazes that came out the year before .. but they always have new ones to offer each year.

Then on the "street" theming:
* Along the paths .. especially around Camp Snoopy and Ghost Town proper ... the mood is set - Fog machines going strong, erie lighting takes shape .. and the ghouls are hiding in their spots .. ready to jump out at you.

The clientel is mostly made up of 20/somethings .. with a fair mix of teens, 30s, 40s, and 50s.

I don't recommend this for any child. In fact .. I very seldomly see any kids for this event. Too frightening for the little ones. (That's what Disneyland's "kiddie" Halloween theme stuff is for).

As for the package that I did ... go to this link .. and if you want to save yourself the growling drive home at 3am ... you can plop yourself right to bed .. after all the intense walking around .. going maze to maze to maze:

http://www.knottshotel.com/haunt/

I did the "Haunted Dreams" package.

I checked in around 3pm ... Got myself situated. Then made myself down into one of the main restaurants where the buffet was. Pretty good food! Was able to take my time. Eventually made my way in by 7:30 .. or whenever the exact time was. And I didn't leave till the park closed at 1am or so. Did everything. Crashed into bed ... as the hotel is right on property. The next morning .. had a nice breakfast buffet at a different restaurant at the hotel.

Had a did everything ala cart ... it would have exceeded the package price by far.

Well worth it!

(I said mazes - second .. by mistake)

Let me add ...
the thing about "The Hanging" ...
they mock, make fun of, roast .. whatever events took place in the year.

Whatever celebrity, VIP, public officials were in the news because of scandal or controversy ... in the last year... "The Hanging" will be sure to do a number on them!

Yikes!

I'm the type of guy more comfortable on a visit to a fluffy bunny farm.

Plus, the last time I went to Knott's there was the odor of uncleaned grease traps everywhere.

Although my DS worked the gig as a monster for several years in the lat3 80s-early 90s and said it was a lot of fun.

And yes, there is a Murphy the Dragon joke in the Hanging this year!
