I really miss the cheesy TV specials. They are a great snap shot of what the park looks like and ever so fun to watch 10 years later.

Please bring back the cheesy TV specials. Thank you.

It was another of those wacky "We're looking for the big cheese" plots, with two bumbling security guards looking all over the new resort. When they finally locate Michael Eisner, he points out that MICKEY is the "big cheese" at Disney! Woo hoo!

Aside from being so retro as to be assinine, the special angered the resort's actual security staff, who not only resented being depicted as boobs, but also pointed out that the two actors (ACTORS!) were clothed in actual security costumes.

As far as I know, the special aired one time only, and has since mercifully vanished.

They probably wanted everyone to be aware of a 50th celebration at all their parks, but were afraid that a focus on DL alone be it through marketing or TV specials would diminish the probability that people would visit WDW for the 50th celebration.

    It’s like...

If most people knew that July 17th was the 50th for DL, they might decide not to go to WDW to be a part of it.

By de-emphasizing the FACT that it was DL's 50th on July 17th 2005, they are hoping a lot of people will just go to WDW and think they are really a part of something special, even if it were to be before or after the actual anniversary.

Contrast this with San Francisco, and presumably the entire West Coast. I've been going to SF every three weeks, and I see DL 50th-specific TV ads. Part of the Powell MUNI/BART station in the city is plastered with DL 50th advertising.

I guess the marketing department figures that people east of, say, Colorado have no interest in going to Disneyland over WDW.

It's a good theory, but they could have easily staged segments at all the parks, making it seem like all the parks were joining in on the celebration of DL's 50th, which is what all the commercial and print ads have been claiming to begin with.

I just remember watching the 40th Anniversary TV special and then directly after going to my mom crying that we had to go. I think that special also focused on some other parks too. In the 80's and 90's didn't it seem they would have at least one hour long TV special a year focusing on something? Now they only do the Christmas Parade.

They are so cheesy Disney, but I really miss them. Does anyone else miss these types of specials?

Don't mind me.. just tired and cranky (and I wouldna't watch Eisner push the 50th if you paid me)..

I was subject to a lot of teasing because I practically forced my brother and sis-in-law to watch the program.

It was mostly 'song and dance' and in the last minute of the hour show there was a quickie ten second shot of an SM train.

    Total hokum.

Oh, and Disney had a few 4th of July tv specials, too. There was even a special for "Light Magic" that was hosted by Alex Trebec~ he was THE WORST host for any Disney special, that I've seen.

I used to love all the short spots they used to do on new attractions, on the Disney Channel, and the specials for the new animated movies. They even used to have a half hour show on the Disney channel, about once a month on all the new things going on in the parks! Now all they do are those insipid spots "movie surfers" and "mikes super short show". HEY, DISNEY?!?!?!?! YOU HAVE ADULT FANS TOO!
