We usually started around the second week in August and went until Memorial Day (assuming no snow days to make up, so we usually went until a week after Memorial Day...). We got a couple 3-day weekends (Labor Day, MLK, Presidents Day), Thursday and Friday of Thanksgiving, about two weeks for Christmas and New Years, a week for Spring Break, and occasionally an extra 3-4 day break in the fall for a fall break, but nobody really understood why we had that.

Out here a lot of schools don't have A/C, so they try to avoid summer as much as possible.
