I have no doubt that it will open earlier than that. Maybe July 1 is the true target date?

It's baffling to me. You guys would have been better off if they commissioned Western River Expedition .. instead of a lesser PotC in 1973.

And for those saying "huh?" ....
When WDW opened October 1971 .. there was no intention of creating an east coast PotC. Western River Expedition was going to be a WDW original - To be a "PotC" replacement. But tourists said, "We want PotC." So, they got it.

I can't blame Eisner or Pressler on this one. ;)

No, we'd better get Pirates in here quick, the guests are complaining! The only reason WDW has such a poor Pirates attraction is because it was rushed to get it open as quickly as possible. I know a lot of the imagineers at the time were frustrated by this.

oc_dean - What I'd heard was park operations wanted WDW's attraction to be open for a few weeks during the spring break rush. I think if they hadn't gotten approval to do that, WDW's would have opened at or near the same time as DL's.

I'm still holding out hope for a preview this weekend for guests. Even if it's a few hours at a time, that'd be great. :)

No. That was all Card Walker's doing.

But you can blame Eisner and Pressler for no Pirates in Hong Kong!

Don't stop there. A park that pretty shouldn't have to worry about giving bad first impressions because there's little substance out of the gate. It is so frustrating to see that Disney has a hard time finding a middle-ground. Paris is one extreme, and HK is the other. They weren't building in Cambodia. I just don't buy the financial justification nor the intellecutual property rights one. To echo Nikki's comment on the other unrelated thread, "They put so little effort into it! Why did they even bother"

I think it was good that they choose HK, but by doing that they had to, IMO, jump a little deeper into the pool. You can't go to China and be completely risk averse.
