In general, there seem to just be more characters around in Tokyo, especially 'cute' ones (like Marie, Bernard, and Bianca), so if you keep an eye out, I'm sure you'll find some great ones!

Nope, she lives in the American Waterfront in DisneySea (I think, unless they changed it).

Anyway, there are tons of unusual characters roaming around the Tokyo parks...even after 12 years or so I'm constantly surprised at the ones I see (even as recently as my last TDL visit!).

As far as the Urayasu question is concerned, without going into TOO much detail online, if you could explain at least which area of Urayasu you'll be in, I can help more specifically. Will you be closer to the Urayasu station on the Tozai train line? Or closer to the Shin-Urayasu or Maihama areas on the Keiyo train line or some other location further from any train stations?

Without specifics, I CAN say that I do believe the buses are handicapped accessible but you might need to wait for several to go by before getting one and I'm not sure what sort of arrangements are required. The trains and train stations in the area are all modernized and should be no problem. Even with the energy crisis keeping escalators closed and lighting levels lowered, I believe the elevators are all functioning normally. Train station staff are able to assist, but most do not speak English so I'd suggest jotting down a few important phrases in Japanese so you can show them on paper what your needs are. Even here, there are several excellent Japanese speakers so I'm sure if you ask specifically what you might want to have on paper, someone could probably help with the translation.

I'm not familiar with the taxi situation as far as accessibility is concerned, I've not seen to many large-sized taxis' around but that doesn't mean it isn't a possibility. I'm sure others will know more. In any case, a taxi in Japan is, as a rule, quite expensive (expect at least $10-$20 even for a very short trip, as much as $100 or more for a longer journey between cities). I would recommend learning more about the public transit options (wheelchair accessible buses are DEFINITELY in use in the city of Urayasu, I can say that much for certain).

I would recommend contacting the Tokyo Disney Resort information center directly (keep in mind the international phone charges may be very high), and ask them what your options are based on the location you will be staying in.

If you can explain without too much detail the area you'll be staying in (like "near Urayasu Station" or "in the Irifune district"), I could probably give them a toll free call during business hours over the next couple of days and report back what I learn.

I hope that none of my info will discourage you from travelling to and enjoying Japan. I don't mean for it to sound daunting, just trying to specify what you might or might not need to figure out in order to enjoy a hassle free and fun vacation in the land of the rising sun...and it IS worth it, and I hope you don't spend all of your time at the resort either because you can CERTAINLY get around the greater Tokyo area using a scooter on most (if not all) train systems along with accessible buses as well! Have a wonderful trip!

I wont be in a scooter, only at disney and will need to get around without too much walking, stairs etc. It would be a nightmare travelling with a scooter.

I was hoping what i was told was correct about the toilets :) In HKDL as i know everyone, if i am not atthe resort I can nap in first aid if need be.

I would imagine any Disney first aid station is similarly helpful, including Tokyo, but I can't say for certain.

I wouldn't worry too much about that, I think they will take good care of you if need be!

***I am not sure what is closer...***

More than likely, the Keiyo line (either Shin-Urayasu station or Maihama).

I will take that info and make a call. I'm very curious about the accommodations and situation myself, as I've got relatives with special needs who've inquired about traveling to Urayasu someday, too.

So when you say you'll use a scooter in the parks only, does that mean you plan to rent one? I'm not sure if that service is available at TDR (others will probably chime in).

If you are concerned with too much walking/stairs etc...be sure and use the elevators around Tokyo as at this moment many escalators have been turned off. It's a bit of a grind, to say the least, but if you take it slow and ask for directions to the elevators in all the stations (station personnel are all very professional and they all know the word "el-a-bay-tar" and perhaps use taxis for short trips as needed when you get tired, I think you can enjoy yourself pretty well in any case. :)

I also can't say for certain whether or not that situation will be the same in mid-June. I'm only mentioning what the situation is right now.

If so, it might be worth looking into as well (should be 140 yen to Maihama station from there, although as MN mentioned the walk is not *that* far from TDS, so going all the way to Maihama is a little too far anyway, I know there are stops along the way but for a tourist it's sort of tough to know where to get off...in your case, asking the driver for "dizuny-she" might help if you're heading for TDS, for TDL, going on to maihama station and following the crowds is best).

Just to elaborate, those JR (Japan (east) Railways) tracks are on the Keiyo train line, and not far from JR Shin-Urayasu station (you can find many shops and restaurants there, very close to where you are staying).

You will be staying in a very convenient area. Sounds cool to me! (also consider "back tracking" to the Shin-Urayasu station and catching a train just one stop to Maihama station, where the Disney Resort is located. That maybe the easier/cheapest option, and there are local buses you can catch that direction too if walking is difficult, also at a cost of 140 yen I think).

It includes contact information. Especially considering what Roger said, it might be a good idea to contact them in advance regarding motorized scooters.

Sounds like supplies might be limited, but they do have motoraied wheelchairs for rent.

I'm still trying to recall if I have ever seen one. I know I've seen the rental wheelchairs with the blue Mickey disc wheel covers.

Do they have a guest assistance card there yet?

I would never be able to experience the parks without a scooter, I barely manage HK. The walk kills me tho from car park to entrance.

Okay, so as you know they have the scooters (she verified that they call them "electric wheelchairs" but it is the seat with the handlebars like a bike), and the cost is ¥2000 per day, and she wanted to remind you that supplies are limited so please arrive early.

Also, she said the best place to get your guest assistance card is at the wheelchair rental area, and when you do so please tell them how many days you'll be visiting the parks and they can give you a card for your entire length of stay.

And she also confirmed that they do have resting stations in first aid at both parks, and you should ask a cast member at any time if you'd like to be taken there.

And after some debate in the call center, they suggested that the bus might be the cheapest way for you to get to the resort, and also might be a bit closer to your accommodations than Shin-Urayasu station. Also, they mentioned that you should get off the bus at the station near Cirque du Soleil if going to DisneySea, but stay on the bus until Maihama station if going to Disneyland.

They also mentioned, however, that the train is the fastest option, possibly even faster than a taxi if there's traffic (but I've never really seen THAT much traffic around that area so I would say taxi is probably fastest and easiest although pricey).

And finally, she asked me to tell you on behalf of all the cast members of the Tokyo Disney Resort that they are very pleased someone is traveling from so far away to visit. :)

Well, MyStays would definitely be more convenient. It's diagonally across an intersection from the Cirque du Soleil theater. So, no taxi, bus, or train to get between the resort and your hotel.

I really wanted to stay at sunroute but it is too expensive for me alone.

I mainly am after character pics and shows, and the rides that are different to other parks.
